Nothing "attaches" there Bunghole. Just a bolt that fits in the hole to secure the head to the cylinder in that middle point. There is a short bolt in the rear, just above the cam chain tensioner, that does the same. The area in your pic "looks" like a gasket surface when the pieces are apart, but it isn't. Looks good, slap that puppy together

Looks good, slap that puppy together Thanks Scondon! Now I have to touch up that spot. Can't have an unpainted surface where no one will see it . I'm cursed. Now I'm just hoping the paint will stick. I used Duplicolor Engine enamel and gave it an hour in the oven at 200, but it still doesn't seem too tough. Time will tell.
I have my engine apart for rebuild and I painted the cases and cylinder jugs and head while I was at it. I taped off the gasket surface where the head and cover mate and painted the rest. After the paint set up, I placed the cover onto the head to see how it looks and there is an unpainted section that isn't covered by the cover. I can't remember anything being attached there. This is the exhaust side. You can see the unpainted section with a hole in the middle. Anyone have any ideas:
