wiring, plumbing problems
« on: February 09, 2008, 06:50:19 PM »
G`day guys
seems the PO didnt know what he was doing with the bike, the wiring is a mess, front brake hose is routed so it rubs and binds when you turn and the clutch cable is the same...
i`ve done a search and unless i missed something i couldnt find any diagrams to show me the original wiring/plumbing/cable routing through the headset and headlight bowl. if anyone can point me in the right direction for some pics or images that show the original routing of the whole mess it would be appreciated
the wiring is totally screwed up, when i hook it up according to the wiring diagram (thanks jona) i have blinkers working but the instrument lights flash too............
i`m no sparky but i`m not an idiot or colour-blind, have i screwed up some-where or is this something i should strip the harness out for
cheers all

so lets see, 26 views no responses
is this because no one is able to help, or just unwilling?
am i not accepted here yet?
i am asking questions because i need to know, you guys seem to know everything there is to know about these bikes and yet no-one is bothering to post a reply
if i`m posting these sort of questions in the wrong place, tell me and i`ll post elsewhere, if i`m not welcome tell me and i`ll leave

i think you're problem is twofold.  first off, you have an intriguing thread title.  thus the 26 views in 3.5 hours with none amongst that can answer your questions.  second, its a really confusing question.  is it a brake hose problem or a wiring problem?  or are you really running the brake hose through the headlight bucket?  the blinking instrument lights are interesting too.  maybe spliting up the issues and asking more specific questions would get you quicker replies to each isolated problem clearly put forth.

ok maybe threefold- you need to be more patient.  while there are members here who can solve your problems- as convolutedly stated as they are- they might not have been online during those few hours and might not appreciate your badgering when they do come across your post.

pics are always helpful too.  if you post a pic of the way your cables and hoses are routed i doubt you would have to wait long for someone to tell you they are routed wrong as  this forum is full of folks who can visually distinguish a badly routed cable but seriously lacking in mind readers and visionaries.  although im sure they exist.

good luck with your issues, but like the 30 odd folks who came before me i can't offer any other useful advice, other than to wait until twotired logs on and hope he is as intrigued by a motorcycle with plumbing issues as i was.

Howdy!

I'm going to guess that your post got read by a bunch of 400 and 550 owners who saw 750 at the end and figured they couldn't help.

The blinker thing sounds like a blinker isn't grounded. There should be lots of 750 pix in the gallery and lots more in project threads.

Happy trails.

OK, maybe i jumped the gun with my second post, but i thought my question was fairly clear, i am looking for images (pics or drawings) of the headlight area to know where to run what wires, cables and hoses
the PO had the front brake hose rubbing against the sheet metal headlight mount and it had worn through the outer rubber housing and starting to rub on the fabric lining, so i know i ned a new one but i want to be able to see where it should be run so this doesnt happen again, he had also made a mess of the wiring and i thought a couple of clear pics would help me route things where they should go so theres no problem with anything chaffing.
i`m going to take the loom off the bike and fit it again with attention to all joins, earth points etc.
as for pics its a bit late as i have removed the headlight bucket, disconected the front brake lines  and unhooked all the wiring, tacho and speedo cables and thought a few pics would simplify the process of re-installing it all properly
cheers

I simply don't believe you've hooked it up per the Honda Factory wiring diagram.
Just doesn't seem likely Honda delivered a bike that worked in such a fashion.

Did you confuse Gr with G?

well the wiring diagram i have isnt the clearest but i have connected them as i read them, they all seemed to match up colour wise (wiring colours), i doubt honda would build a bike like that but i`m fairly sure the PO has done something to cause it after the mess i`ve already removed
i`ll strip the harness out and check for any hidden modifications and bad earths
cheers

Hi there, finished restoring my 76 CB750 F1 last year, have attached some diagrams from the F1 manual supplement and parts book, I can also attach some photos of my F1 if that is not enough. The wiring diagram has "boxes" which show where the wiring is physically located as well if you look closely.

Cheers

thanks spitfire
the manual copy i have doesnt have too many decent images, these are the sort of things i was looking for, i need to replace the top hose for the front brake because of the PO`s routing, and his wiring was "creative" to say the least lol
I would appreciate a couple of pics of your bikes headset area, my manual is a generic (and a photocopy, got to look for a decent real one)
your helps appreciated mate
cheers

Here's a quick one of the finished result, I'll dig through the in progress shots to see if there is a clearer one.

thats one hell of a bike there spitfire, i`m jealous now, my bike is a little rougher than that
i`m looking to find things like the throttle cable routing etc, that pic shows me the PO had it wrong at the headlight for a start, so any chance of pics of the frame routing?
i`m not looking at doing a full restoration but i want this to be a decent bike and i figure honda spent plenty of money on that so i should route the wiring and cables (and plumbing) the same way they did
cheers
