cb350f carb rebuild or replace question
« on: February 20, 2008, 07:36:52 PM »
So, I was rebuilding my carbs and when I pulled them apart one of them looked like this :o :

I've never seen a carb that pitted and am leaning toward replacement.  Just for kicks, I thought I'd ask whether or not y'all thought it is rehabilitate-able.

Also, any suggestions on finding new carbs (other than playing at being a vulture on ebay)?

The best thing to do with that carb is take a hammer and nail and drive the nail into your shop wall and hang the carb on it.........that's wild  :o

You can post on this forum for parts wanted, someone here likely has one or two...
but I'd say that carb is no longer any good.

Yeah, I figured it was pretty much spent, but I always like to check to see if someone has a clever idea.  Plus engine-death porn is always fun to see.  I'm actually a little surprised to see it this bad, because it wasn't running that rough, just getting awful mileage.

You know, I've seen some bad ones too... but on old tractors and they're cast steel. The problem is if it's that bad, there's a good chance that there are some air leaks somewhere that could cause a lean condition....

You could give it a shot? put it together and try it. but I recommend a new carb.

That one looks like it has rotted even beyond the 'interesting experiment' point.

Yeah, it could run, but not like some better examples would.

A decent rack of used carbs seems to cost less than the gasket kits anyway...

Happy trails.

I would have to say it's not worth trying to save, and I've even saved crap like this :

But I did end up replacing 2 out of 4 body's !

If your interested, I may have a good replacement one for you.

My CB175 had one carb eaten away like that, the other was perfect. Can't figure out why one and not the other.  I've got a junk rack of carbs if you want to replace that carb body.
