I was at the Daytona bike week vintage auctions and almost bought a pristine unrestored CB550 in the parking lot. It had 2800 miles with perfect original paint, it was amazing and he only wanted $2500 for it. I agonized for a while thinking I could buy it on Wed and sell it for more in the Friday auction. Seems I remember seeing them go on ebay for $4500 in this condition. Anyway I ended up passing on it. There was another one in the auction in just a tiny bit better condition and it only went for $2200 so I did the right thing.

I'm shocked at the low values, its really not worth restoring one yet.

There was a never ridden 305 scrambler with 3 miles and it went for $13.500 otherwise I though everything went too cheap.

We ain't in it for the money. 

The day the sohc4's become too expensive is the day I start buying, rebuilding and riding something else.

same here... i know i've paid for them in fun many times over.  only i prefer the littler ones.

These bikes are far more valuable for restoration if you actually ride them.

If you're just looking for a money making scam, please do look elsewhere, possibly the far over-valued Harley Davidson series.

Totally agree with you all. If you started adding up everything that these cost to restore you'd never do it. But as others have said, its not the value they are worth its the sense of achievement when you see it finished and here it running. Not to mention the first time you ride it. These are "real classic" machines.

     These things can be bought at a reasonable price, ridden for as you long as you like, and re-sold for more than you got in them. Tell me that ain't having your cake and eating it...
