Wheel swaps???
« on: March 15, 2008, 12:18:52 PM »
Does any one know if you can put a dual disk K wheel on a 78f front end? Are the hubs the same width? Is the spacing of the disks ( Disk off set ) K verses F the same width for the calipers to line up?? (K dual disk front wheel to 78F front tubes) Thanks for any input!

Swapping the spoke K wheels onto a F2/F3 is not straightforward.  The K rotors are larger diameter, thicker and not of the same off set as the Fs rotors. They will not directly work with your F calipers.  The F also uses a five bolt rotor while the Ks hub is setup for a six bolt.  This means that you can't swap the F rotors onto the K hub.  You also can't directly bolt on a pair of K calipers onto your Fs fork legs since the two are a completely different design (F is trailing, K is leading type) with different attachment method.   You could get a pair of K forks and slide them into your trees as they are both 35mm tubes.  You would then use K type calipers but this would be a significant retrograde move IMO.  My experience is that the Fs dual caliper setup offers much better braking than dual disc setups using K type calipers.  The K equipment is significantly heavier also. I have seen a few go through the machining process to get the K rotors sized and offset correctly to line up with the F2/F3 calipers but this is a good bit of work.
