Topic: 400 f tensioner question

I have looked through the FAQs and haven seen anything related.
I was going through my parts and found that the tensioner push rod the one that actually has the springs around it HAD a rubber piece bonded to it and is no longer bonded, honda doesn have this part anymore and was wondering if anyone had an alternative? or do I need to search for a used one?

I've been through the honda parts manual and several online
parts fiches, and I can't find any reference to a rubber piece on the
tensioner push rod.  Previous mod perhaps?
Can't imagine why though.  There are 2 springs however.

Yes the push rod is supposed to have the rubber piece bonded to it, if it's missing you will need to replace the push rod.
Also you won't find a part # for the rubber piece as it's part of the push rod.

I have just been through this on my 350F 

The replacement part is an upgraded design.... might have to search for one, I got mine from westernhillshondayamaha.com had one for about $25. Had it in their old stock. local dealer says it's discontinued:

Hey Matt, thanks for posting that info. I have never seen that replacement part..do you have a part #. looks like I should make some of those if they are no longer available.

I know its not a sperate piece guys its bonded during assy I was just wondering if anyone had run into or found a workable replacement, I am going to have to search for some NOS, the 350 is the same good to know. I will give that honda place a yell on monday. worst case I will bond a new piece on there, todays adhesive tech is much better than back then.

1974 CB350F is:
BAR
14550-369-020  (replaces 14550-369-010)

The 400F part # is different, so see if you can get the right one for your machine first, and if not, see if you can get this one. I'm pretty sure they're the same part.

Just go through the parts finder at their website to get the numbers:

That plastic piece you're talking about BBIN only came off on mine after I took it apart. I had to remove the adjustment bolt that had been broken off by the PO and it got broken in the process. I would'nt try gluing it it you can find one. If it comes apart later it's not easy to get at which you already know

The same part will work in both bikes. good to know about the different part #'s.

I have the Part List from Honda4Fun and I don't see the number you are giving (14550-369-020).
I only found 14550-333-000 (Bar, cam chain tensioner push):  is it the item you are talking about???

since its fairly agreed that the 350f and 400f part is the same... they may only carry the one.

Did a bit of digging around and found out that part # 14550-369-020 is a CB360 part. now I do know the 360 uses the same tensioner set up as the 350/400F. plus I see it was superceded from 369-000 and 369-010.
Plus the 369-020 is listed as a superceded part for the 350F but not for the 400F. It still lists the 333 # for the 400F, now which part came first?

What year did the CB360 come out?

I have a 350F motor and various 400F motors here and that part for both motors is identical.

Maybe some one else has some more info..?

Question:  does it mean that to do a proper job, not only I would have to buy p/n 14550-369-020 (Bar), but also the "Fully redesigned tensioner with adjusting bolt"

What would be the Part Numbers required?

My bike is a CB350F 1973 No. CB350F1053779.

You only have to find the push bar. no other parts need to be changed as the lock bolt and tensioner horseshoe shaped bracket are the same on all models. nothing changed in the design.

 Humm...  Another question:  is that bar an item that will wear rapidly?  Should I keep another one as spare?

hey guys I started this and after reading everything and a head full of PNs, I have checked with my Honda parts source and theyre showing it as no longer available?? western hills honda shows the PN and a price but I checked some other known not avalable parts and there site shows a price, I dont think there site is interactive with available stock or am I missing something. I am curious if anyone is getting a call that its not available. I'm thinking I may have to get one made or find a doner bike.

Just wondering, if that small rubber piece is missing from the push rod, would I be getting some kind of an ticking or rattling noise?

 I know the 400f springs for the tensioner are always shot, but besides the poorly tighten cam chain and it's problem of
waring out fast, could this be causing the metallic rattle noise?
