holy beer prices batman!
« on: May 25, 2008, 12:26:14 PM »
i went to get a couple of cases of beer this afternoon when i did my shopping at sams club. price for a case (24pack) of budweiser has been 12.99. when i got to the beer aisle today it was 15.99!. i about dropped my teeth when i saw that. well i said to hell with that and did the drive into downtown columbia to greens discount beverages. when i buy beer there i get the bud in 12 24oz cans, and spent less than a 24 pack of 12oz cans at the grocery store. the 24 oz cans had gone up from 90 cents a can to 1.39! i hate to go to something even cheaper than bud but bloody hell! the prices have gone nuts.

Don't forget the cost of aluminum has been on a steady climb for several years.

When it's hot out and I'm thirsty, even those buck-a-beers taste good to me!
make er a Laker
a few of the smaller breweries in Ontario sell ther beer for a buck a beer :-\ (whipy #$%*)
the majority of the price is taxes.....if you enjoy something here the government taxes the #$%* out of it  IE booze (you would cry if i told you how much liqueur costs in Canada)smokes and gas....40 per cent on gas :o

I pay $22.00 for a case of 12 oz. Michelob Lager in bottles. I know theres cheaper beer but I love my Michelob and will probly spend $30.00 soon with the price of gas driving up everything.

well i pay $31 au for 24 375 ml cans, its a mid-strength beer so its a little cheaper than full strength, your paying over $40 for a carton (box of 24 cans or stubbies) of coopers pale ale.

Have you ever heard about the "big mac index"? They compare the wealth of a country by the price of a big mac menu in each country. Seems that the outcome is more accurate than the different unemployment, GNP or debt figures.

Maybe we should compare the price of a Heineken or Coke can around the world....

What are you guys complaining about? Over here we pay about the equivalent of $12-13 for a sixpack in the shops. And try to find a bar where you get one pint under $10...........

Troppo - They sell the Cooper's Pale Ale in the US and one of the local stores sells it. I liked it and will buy it again. It is around $7.00 for a six pack, which is the only way that I have seen it.

Just returned from the beach where we usually drink water-beer.  Keystone 30 pack for $11.99.  I don't mind when I'm at the beach in the sun, but usually prefer better beer.  It wasn't bad for water-beer though.

I found a brew called Tasman Bitter only available in Coles bottlos
turns out it's brewed by Boags under licence to coles so instead of paying around $A50 for a carton of boags, I'm paying $30 & the only difference is the colour of the bottle & the label

Coke is fairly cheap now since they are battling Pepsi for market share. Everything that needs to be trucked is going up. Diesel is out of sight and the cost has to be passed along. I know people that make their own Beer as a hobby, it may become a necessity.

Diesel is out of sight

Don't even mention that...
Diesel prices are storming ahead over here right now. It's just a matter of days before we see it pass NKr14, or very close to $3. That's per litre! (A few drops over a quart for you guys in the US...)

Well actually if you drink fosters anywhere but australia it is not an aussie beer, it is generally brewed in or near the country of consumption, SWMBO had her brother and neice over from england a couple of months ago and he and i had been talking previously about it he actually brought a 6 pack of fosters INTO australia, tasted nothing like the piss water that is fosters in aussie, was actually almost drinkable.

Used to do the home brew, was actually brewing to kegs so i had it on tap instead of bottles, until the quack said "No more beer for a while" so decided to sell the setup, cheap good quality beer. Cost me about $40 or $45 for all ingredients, power for boiling etc, 1 1/2 hours of my time to make about 36 litres (2 18 litre kegs) and the best bit was SWMBO could never complain about the dead soldiers only one glass lol
