Carb rebuild kits.

I have a 1977 K bike.  I replaced the 77 carbs with early model carbs K4 or K5?  It's time for a rebuild.  I need a suggestion as to what brand of rebuild kits to go with and also is there any way to tell what model bike these carbs came off.

Everybody says to use the original Honda jets etc.
I used some aftermarket kits that I got at Z1.  Gaskets were shaped to fit the bowls (some are just large o-rings) and they work like a champ.
Jets and needles look good enough to me....seem to run pretty good.  look identical to what I pulled out of my carbs - except clean
Less than half of what my Honda shop was charging
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

If the metal components of the carbs aren't damaged, the Honda Gasket set is all you need.  Then you don't have to worry about after-market manufacturers' quality control program being up to snuff.

If they are cheaper, why do you suppose that is?

But the honda gasket set is for just one carb, isn't it?  so at $41 each, for 4, it comes to around $164?  Isn't that kind of steep?  The downside here is I can't find *anyone* *anywhere* that is supplying the rebuild kits for my bike.

No if you buy a rebuild kit for a CB/ 4 carbs it's all together it's not per carb.

Really? last time I bought one, I only got the stuff for one carb, and that was the OEM gasket kit.  ???

sorry, should've said I'm looking for a set for my '80 650.  I can find them anywhere for the 81-82s, with their CV carbs, but nothing for the mechanical slide ones

Heck for that money you might be able to buy a set of used VBs and a carb kit for all three  ;D i wonder if they would work? i saw a set on ebay for 20 bucks.

I bought these oem rebuild kits ($60 for the set of 4)for my K4 a few months ago, but have since put a set of Mikuni Smoothbore carbs on my bike.  I've kept them around because I still have my Keihin Carbs, But would be willing to let the kits go to a forum member for what I've got into them.  The kits come with every rubber gasket, a fiber washer, and an aluminum washer. Everything but the hardware i.e. Jets/Needles

Am also curious of the difference between the Keyster and Honda OEM... I think they pretty much work out to cost the same price last time I checked for my CB550F. (sorry if I'm hijacking) The dealer here charged me $25/kit straight from Honda.

I used Kester rebuild kits for the PD50B's on the '79 650 engine that is currently in the frame.  I found that these kits had a variety of o-rings, but not all of the o-rings.  I had to reuse the small o-rings in the air cut off valves.  I used the jet-needle from the kits because I needed to be able to adjust it since I was putting pod filters on (there was no air box present when I bought it).  After 6 months, here is the condition of the Kester jet-needle (bottom), after I cleaned off the crud compared to the stock needle (top) that came out of the bike:



The engine was not run much durring those 6 months but run even less previous to me puchasing it.  There is a notch that can be felt like the brass has been eaten away.  The original jet-needles are fine.

Here are the stock needle-jets that came out of the carbs:



Nice and clean.

Here are the Kester needle-jets and the stock main nozzles after 6 months:



Cruddy.

Like TT says, I wonder about the quality of these after market kits and I also wonder what Oxygenated fuel does to brass.  While cleaning out the carbs this last time, I re-installed the stock PD50B needle-jets and jet-needles from a set of PD50A carbs.  These gave me the mixture that I was looking for.

You said you used parts from pd50a and from pd50b in the same carb and it worked? Just curious as I have a set of each but the pd50a's were missing parts, so I picked up the b's to steal from. Got the air cut off valves, some non stripped screws, choke linkage spring etc… all work fine. But I have two possible changes now.
The #3 body on the A's has a stripped out bolt hole for the float goal so curious if I can sub the #3 body from the B set if I use all the jets etc from the A to keep things constant? Secondly I was wondering if I can use the slide/needle sets from the PD50Bs in my PD50As (except the #3 which would hopefully be the B body anyway)
Any feedback is appreciated. And sorry for jacking the thread, been reading online for days now looking for answers and got excited when I read you mixed parts lol. Maybe I'll start my own thread as well.
