Hey thanks.

It's a work in progress, but I don't know if it ever will be really "done".  I'll try to take a more current picture later.

It's sold as a weld-on spark arrestor for off-road buggies.  Bought it from www.dansperformanceparts.com.  I've added about 9 of the diffuser disks and the bike runs great with basically stock jetting.  It does the same job and weighs about 10 lbs. less than the Kerker megaphone I ran before.  I like it.

Nice fairing by the way.  Airtech?

Pacifico pathfinder from the 70's up top, and what started as a suzuki GSXR 750 lower. I added about seven inches of hand laid glass to each side to increase its length and built up a ledge so I could fasten the two pieces together. the ductwork is NACA (nascar) stuff. I cut out openings in the tops of the fairing sides and mounted the ducts where I thought they would affect the best cooling for the head.

That's some fine work.  It looks seamless like it was molded in one piece.

+1, I had to go back and read his thread. I've caughed up enough glass to know the work involved  ;)

The Fairing upper is a Pacifico Pathfinder from the 70's, The lower started as a Suzuki GSZR 750 lower cowl that I added about 7 inches of glass to so that it would mate with the lower portion of the pathfinder fairing.

The seat is built on a stock 500K seatpan that I shortened and added the rear pod to by building up layers of glass mat and glass cloth over a foam plug. Cowhide, closed cell foam from camping mats and carpet padding were put together to make the saddle. I stitched it myself on a heavy duty sewing machine.

The NACA duct or NACA scoop is a common form of low-drag intake design, originally developed by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (the precursor to NASA) in 1945. When properly implemented, it allows air to be drawn into an internal duct, often for cooling purposes, with a minimal disturbance to the flow. The design was originally called a "submerged inlet," since it consists of a shallow ramp with curved walls recessed into the exposed surface of a streamlined body, such as an aircraft. It is especially favored in racing car design. ;)

I have one of those NACA scoops on each side of my airplane.  They work well.

Seems you missed a critical part of the scoop design, as yours a backwards to intended air flow.

Sorry.

Yeah, used quite alot on airplanes still because of their low drag.

...and yes, they do point the other way  :-[

Would orienting them that way be because he intends them to be exhausts rather than intakes?

since rules have gone out the window for bike of the month lately, i'll just throw a pic up of one of my old bikes, a 94cbr600f2... please reference the "backwards" air duct.

Hey tsflstb,

First off... your bike is killer... I totally dig it.

Second... where did you get your manx seat? It looks like it fits pretty well. I am looking for one for my 350F and I am leaning toward getting one from Clubman Racing.

Thanks, and your bike gets my vote.

Thanks.  The seat if from www.clubmanracing.com.  It's the short version for a Norton wideline frame.  You'll have to get creative with mounting it, but it does fit the frame and stock tank OK.

I found the fork brace cheap but it took a little massaging to fit on the 400.  I hacked out a couple of 3/4" aluminum spacers between the clamps and the bridge to clear the tire.  It's a pretty stout piece.

Sorry.

I'm aware of the duct's intended purpose. I wanted a hot air exhaust outlet for each side of the fairing that would be flush or recessed. The reversing of the NACA ducts also saved me from more original glasswork by providing ready-made pieces that I could attach to the lengthened panels I added to each side of the GSXR lower fairing. The cut-out from one of the ducts serves as an air intake on the lower right side of the GSXR fairing. No apologies necessary; we all do the best we can with what we know, can learn, get or make.  :)

hymo... i think you placed the duct correctly.

it looks right AND is oriented the way they are placed on many plastic bikes.

and earlier... i said look at the duct... i should have said look at the ductS... there are 6 total on that particular cbr w/ the exhaust flow orientation...  2 on each side of the tail section and one big one on each side of the front fairings.

Of course, it looks best the way it is too.
