Topic: Anybody Seen Evidence Of This?

      My Sister-in-law got something in her email about cheating at the gas pumps.

       Seems that this person stopped at a Kangaroo/BP gas station on 1325 Main Street in Cartersville GA. His truck was sitting on 1/4 of a tank. They used mid-grade which was priced at $3.71 per gallon (April 24, 08) and usually takes about 14 gallons to fill it back up. When the counter showed 14 gallons, he slowed the pump down and was surprised when it went to 15 gallons, then 16. At this point, he looked under the truck to see if gas was running out somewhere. Then it went to 17 and finally stopped at nearly 18 gallons! Seemed kinda odd cause the truck had an 18 gallon gas tank! He was kinda puzzled until he saw on the evening news that there was a report that 1 out of 4 stations had recalibrated their pumps to show that they got more gas than they actually got.

               I wouldn't be surprised to find out that more things like this were happening all over. Anyone know of this going on?

It's the department of weights and measures in Iowa.  Don't know if that is the under the umbrella of the department of agriculture.  Haven't heard of anything like that going on around here though. 

Do you know where this happened or what evening news station he was watching?  I'm always a little skeptical about things like this showing up in my inbox.

I'd be more than just a little skeptical.  Urban legend emails have about as much credibility as that Nigerian dude who wants to give you lots and lots of money.

           Hey, thanks for that Hope. That is exactly the same message my Sister-in-law got. Someone my Sister-ln-law knew, sent it to her. That was pretty cool that you knew where to find the same message that I was talking about. The message she sent on to us, had the part in there abut how that person said to check the pumps accuracy, just like the one on Snopes.

What we have seen over the past year is a local station where the pump regularly started at a few pennies before the pumping even started.  We complained to the state.  Over time, those few pennies may have earned those guys quite a few $$$.

          I hear ya, those few pennies multiplied by al who use that place, would add up all right!

I'm more amazed that gas is under $4 somewhere out there in America. 

          I hear ya on that! As of now, in our part of Western Central Arkansas, we're between $3.81 - $3.99 (So Far). I have seen an occasional $3.79.
