Pressure Switch
« on: April 12, 2005, 04:18:32 AM »
CB500K1 Oil pressure switch.
When I turn the ignition on the oil light does not operate. Then (After checking the oil, Also checked under the tappet covers to see loadsa oil sploshing about) After I go for a spin, turn the engine off The oil light works again. Firstly ...could there be gunk in the switch that softens with the heat and allows the switch to operate? Secondly have you seen the price of these as NOS !! Can anyone tell me the pressure rating/ change over point for this switch as I'm sure any correctly rated switch will do.

Could also be bad elec. connections. Maybe riding rattles things around enough to make a connection, but when sitting, the faulty connection shows itself. Anything else elec. erratic?
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Nah...everything else is fine, with regard to erratic / bad connections...this scenario is religious, it always comes on after driving (not during) and never first thing. I don't feel like pulling it out until I investigate a replacement if required. meanwhile I'll drive on and keep an eye on the oil just in case I get caught out.

If I recall, the pressure switch has a low threshold (something like 3-5 pounds)
Maybe Bryan Jones would like to comment (I'm sure he knows!)
