Ok I need some help, i'm trying to decide whether to paint the spokes of my wheels or to paint the rim. I was thinking classic black rim with chrome spokes, or black spokes with polished rim...but I havn't seen many bikes like this other than my friends HD Sportster Nightster, which looks awesome with a black lip....i'd like to see some CB's with various wheel combo's, paint, polished, powdercoat...you name it...

So I guess this is more of a "SHOW ME YOUR WHEELS" type thread that a lot of car forums have lol. So even if they aren't spoked, show em off! A quick explanation of what was done to them what size they are, what size tire you are running maybe? and a pic or two would be nice. I'm not looking to make this a huge long discussion thread, just mainly pics of peoples wheel ideas.

Powdercoated hubs and rims w/ thicker stainless spokes.  The rims are one size wider both front (1.85) and rear (2.15) so they match more manufacturer's recommended widths for modern metric tire sizes (90/90/18 front and 110/90/18 rear).  Lots of time and money involved.

  • I'm not here.

Stock powdercoated rims, new OEM spokes. I haven't mounted them yet but it should look like tsflstb's.

I don't know, just seems to work better with this era bike than the mags...

RJ: Thanks for recent PMs. I meant to tell you I really like the red frame and wheels.

I'm going with a gold frame and thinkin I'll do the rims too.

My next project will have a black frame, cylinders and gold rims for sure :)

I love gold wheels, but I dont think that would too well with the red frame  ??? ;D

RJ, damn you, I was thinking about something along these lines.  But not exactly, mwuhahahahahah!

Edit:  talking about the 750 w/ the red frame.  Then you go and post the f4i. That is THE color I want in that bike!  Great minds think alike I guess.

Long ago and far away, I had a '67 Tri Bonneville and a friend had a "68 Tri Daytona. He hand painted the spokes white (chrome rims) and then matched it by painting white dots on the edges of the motor fins which were all black. Good look.

I just got my 3.5 x 17" Excel rim for my "Phaedrus" project (see Project Shop forum). It has "Excel" and related ID twice on both sides in Red and it doesn't appear to be a decal. It looks cool, so now I hesitate to cover it up with some other color. I'll post a picture this afternoon.

Rim (and HD SS spokes) was ordered from East Coast Wheels, but the box has a Buchanan's return address on it.  Curious.

The copper is metallic paint (rattlecan). The finish has been surprisingly durable. I sprayed 3 coats of paint on the rim and spokes (I suppose I could have finished with a clear layer but didn't). One bit of advise that I learned the hard way...I had a standard chain to start with and it flung oil on the rim and spokes. A real pain in the @ss to clean. I switched to an "O" ring chain and solved that problem.
