Yes, the 650C has dual front disk brakes and 4 into 4 exhaust.

I'm afraid I can't confirm the dual disc setup on the '81 custom... just haven't seen any with it... but maybe that's just me.  Most parts should be interchangeable.

Yes, most parts are identical. All engine, carb, and electrical are the same.

If you are having carb problems see if you can locate a set of VB44 B or VB44 C, both of these have screw in and replaceable idle jets. These were used on the 82 models and will be one of the best upgrades you can do.

Mine's a 79 650z and I have double front discs. ;D

Another difference is that the cb650c has an 18" front with dual disk and a 16" rear rim, while the '79 cb650 has a 19" front with single disk and a 17" rear.  I have parts from both so my 650c has the 18" dual disk up front and the "17 rear.  There are also carb and engine top end differences between the years '79-'80, '81-'82.

I found your carb kit thread.  Looks like you got some answers so far.

What I see in the package (of the RED arrowed items) is a new main jet, which screws into the emulsifier tube, and a new idle jet which presses in.  I have both a '79 engine (in the '81 frame) and the '81 engine (with thrown chain damage).  The Kester kits that I ordered from Z1 for the '79 carbs did not contain a new emulsifier nor an idle jet. The carb kit for the '81 SOHC 650 on Z1 Enterprises looks very much like what you have from ToonMax.

What looks like a small emulsion tube is the slow/idle jet I believe.  Just last weekend I pulled the slow/idle jets out of my '79 carbs, and that is what they look like.  A closer look at the Kester Kit on Z1 looks like the slow/idle jet is threaded.  Here is a pic of the Z1 kit.

ok, so where is the slow idle jet?  what i find in these cv carbs is one removeable main and the others look pressed or there is just a hole.
i have no manual for the carbs as the one we have hosted here is not for the cv carbs.   :-\
i admit, i have yet to remove the top caps thinking there would not be any removable parts up there, but the slow idle jet i can not find in these carbs.
what are the orings for?  dismantling the rack?
z1 kit looks exactly the same... so maybe i shouldn't return these and use what i can?
thanks for the use of your thread, boy650  ;D

I'm just feeling really weird about my bike now... It's a 1980 CB650 and both the side badges say 'custom' but it's got the 19" front and a 17" back... single disc up front... d'oh! The badges, how they lie!

Triple clamps were mentioned, I know that the triples are different between the single disc and dual disc front, the dual disc being wider by about 3/8 inch IIRC. Also, the Custom has a shield or visor or something over the gages. Kinda like a micro windscreen, but solid black.

Both my USA 81 customs with dual disk have 19" front wheels.  All my 650s have had 19".   The triple clamps are wider for the dual disk bikes.

Kitsune, our 80 model customs should have 19 front single disc and 16 rear. heffy, the slow jets are pressed in and according to honda are not removable, but they can (and should ) be removed with a pair of pliers by pulling straight up and twisting slightly. one of the small o-rings, the small washer, and the spring go on the idle screw. one of the o-rings (medium one i think) goes between the carb body and the float bowl at the passage where gas goes from the acc pump to the 4 squirters in the carbs.(believe me you need this o-ring , dont ask me how i know.)

Yeah, I thought I was going nuts, then looked up the parts fiche- the 81s are D.D.... Bummer that we missed out on all that extra braking power by a year!

...and yeah, I had an adventure with those o-rings, too. They are VERY necessary. ;)
