It's.........ALIVE !

She let me ride her today, finally . I have no idea how I fixed the spark, but this
morning ....there it was....all hot and bothered.
Although a certain amount of impatient insanity overtook me, and I pointe her at the road and let fly. Was she ready, probably not, as there are quite a few things I don't even know if I have right....including chain and sprockets. But seemed to be o.k.
The front sprocket bolt is tight, but either the spreocket is worn in the middle, or
the shaft is. So the bolt hits bottom without fully pinning the sprocket, allowing
1/8 inch or so of play. When I adjusted the chain, it seemed to resist any wobbling.
The sprocket teeth look great, so I am afraid it could be the shaft.
I also shortened the chain, it was too long. Then I think I read that it has to
have a certain amount of teeth. Also need to check tire compatibility.

   What I did was probably a no-no, but I married a 78 750 k8 frame and engine,
to a 79 everything else. The forks, rear tire, tank, side covers, rear inner fender,
touring package, was all from the 79. I included both wiring harnesses.
I also had to undo some damage that was done by a poor chop job to
the 78 frame. I actually cut a back section off the 79, and welded it to the 78,
while making some changes so things would fit.
This whole thing started as a zero dollar project, and I've had these parts laying around for years. Suddenly, this summer, I got bike fever, or is it the gas crunch that
gave me an excuse to go nuts for the last three weeks working on what I thought
was going to be just a ratty ride for work. Some how, even though I have a long ways to go to make her sound, she looks better than a rat, and I think I'm in love with a
bike again. My wife is ready to leave me of course, I refuse to come in at bedtime,
and can think of nothing else but that bike.
If anyone knows alot about drive trains, (chains and sprockets), I'd like to hear from
them.
Time to get some pics.

Ah the first strains of love. ;D
Front sprockets have a wee bit of play, they are designed like that, if you don't have huge amounts of oil flying past you as you ride then the shaft is probably OK.
Not sure who on here will be delegated to shoot you for welding 78 bits to a 79 to create your Frankenstien bike but if you need a hand with welding any more bits to it then Martino is your man. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
