I just bought an original seat for my bike- for 50 bucks- on ebay It brings me to a crossroads as I pour over bics of 750s- some cafes, some stock, as to where exactly is this going? I do like the stock look- but those turn signals and mirrors are so doudy looking! I don't want the cafe fender but something to give her ass a better look- you know?

what i'm doing with mine is i recovered the seat with new foam and a new cover (34 year old foam gets crumbly) i'm using the stock rear fender also but shortened a bit, stock tailight mount modified to accept a cats eye led tail/brake/tag light. small turn signals (also led).

I know what you mean when you talk of the mirror and blinker 'barbs' but not sure what direction to go. Take bits of inspiration from different sources and mix to suit I say. It'll be your own creation! I like Cafes big time but also like the classic lines of a stocker.

When I took on car projects I first decided what my expectations were before I even thought about what the final ride would look like... or even be for that matter. Sticking to that it was less difficult to stay on course.

I like mine clean and mildly modified to my tastes.  I got rid of the ginormous mirrors and turn signals, lower bars, cut the fenders, and made myself a seat cowl.  My bike still looks presentable and respectable and I can ride it, for a long time. 

(I cut the front fender and removed the mud flap since the photo was taken)

i love cafe's , but i really don't like very many of the tail sections  something about um just rubs me wrong. witch is why i went with the (heavily) modified stock fender.  it just fits the lines of the bike better IMO

if you do go custom just look around the site for inspiration

   This pretty much sums it up.   76' CB592 cafe. 69 750 project, 03 CBR954, 75 750 super sport.

One thing I am really glad that the PO did was keep all the stock parts he pulled off. He basicly turned the bike into a poor mans Goldwing  ;). It took me less than four hours to pull off the fairing and take all the boxes off.. Mostly because the connections in the headlight bucket were unmolested and in some cases marked with the OG wire code.

My thought is to modify mildly- I just bought a stock seat, but am looking at modifying the turn signals and adding a little chrome (my uncle built choppers in the 70s- the chrome love took hold early). but I will keep the stock stuff on hand.

The one thing the PO did was add air shocks (see below) that I might remove for coils and springs at some point later- once all the mechanicals are 100%

That's a beasty bike, I always liked the solid look of the 750 motor (reminds me of those Centurion robots off the old Battlestar Galactica for some reason).
How about a compromise, bring the old 750 into the present century with as suggested remodled indicators, mirrors and a jazz up of the tail section.
Sorry I'm a traditionalist in most things and just love to see these old ladies restored to stock, but if you must improve on perfection, best to make cosmetic changes. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
