Old Friend off to the Recycing Bin
« on: February 11, 2026, 07:26:13 AM »
Well, earlier this week my garage refrigerator took its last breath.  It had to be at least 15 years old or maybe more.  Through the years it was covered with stickers received from numerous vendors as projects came and went.  A few years back it was the on earth heaven for Coors Light and frosted mugs in the freezer, I couldn't even venture a guess how many dead beer soldiers began life in the bowels of the trusted machine.  In recent years the beer had been replaced with Peak Ice Tea, Propel Lemon water, and the small size cans of Diet Pepsi so old men don't have to pee so often. It was also the freezer holding area for the overflow meats and assorted other frozen treats when a large grocery store run had been done.  It was just always there, chugging away, and never failed until the recent extended below freezing cold spell we recently endured.  I think between the cold and its old age, it decided it was time to go.  I dropped off it the local metal refuge bin yesterday and said my final goodbyes.  I just hope it comes back as something useful, a heart monitor. a motorcycle lift, a part on the Space Shuttle, just God please don't let it be a Prius...........

That made me laugh. Thanks! You might notice its absence in other ways. We used to have an ancient “KELVINATOR” beer fridge in our farmhouse basement. I think it originally belonged to to a neighbour of my Mom and was +50 years old. It just never stopped grinding away. This was our weekend place, so the monthly hydro bill was fairly reasonable. One summer, the old fridge died and we carted it off to the local dump….

Imagine my surprise when the total electricity costs suddenly were cut in half. It took me a while to realize that keeping a few beers cold was NOT very economical!

I have a Kenmore in the garage, came with this house over 15 years ago, covered with stickers and plenty of cold drinks inside!

We use a shed  in our garden as a fridge from November to March. Mostly food.

No need of cold drinks here except for the stuff making GT cold. ;D

I dream about another house with outdoor kitchen all year around, lemon tree and other good stuff that loves a  frost free life.
The non biking part of the year is very short due to high temp, not 5-6 months of  too low ....  ;D

Hey Stev-o...we had a Kenmore bought at Sears in 1980 that lasted about 40+ years. The color "harvest gold" remember that? The only reason we  got rid of it was my wife wanted a new kitchen with matching appliances. Then we got a Kitchen Aid which lasted only 3 years...last time I buy a Kitchen Aid product.

Hey Johnie... yes, Kenmore appliances sold at Sears were very good, that could of been the brand that my parents had.
