New Life for CB550
« on: September 10, 2008, 06:02:09 PM »
I think this would be the right forum.  Anyhoo...  I am starting with a Taylor Dunn utility cart.  Its electric powered, with a Ford 9in rear.  I'm pulling that out to put in a Honda CB550 motor and Yamaha Blaster swingarm.  Me and my little bro converted a XR350 into a trike 3 or 4 years ago so I'm cutting the rear out of that.

Spend some time on this site!

http://www.3wheelers.com/

I really like cycle cars (think early Morgans) and you may want to submit your build pix to 3 wheeler.com as he has quite a database of trikes/3wheelers/cycle cars.

Scrapping the motor and hanging on to the rear axle.  I'm just using the swingarm off of the tryke.

That doesn't soound like a bad project.  Those are decent carts, we had a couple of them at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot when I was stationed there.  We'd hook the rear end up to a hoist or just have a couple of us hold up the back end and burn 'em till we had slicks, then pray for it to rain.
Just call me Timmaaaaay!!!

Looks like Martino removed the 550 engine from the frame!
Ever heard of removing the motor from the left side or are you using the cradle as support in the trike?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I guess I should of been more clear last night.  I'm putting the 550 motor in the car, using the tryke rear axle and swing arm in the tryke.

Got the rear out and started mocking up for the engine.  Didn't get pics of that, got too dark.  The electric motor is junk.  The rear I am saving.  Never know when I will build something odd, like a small block in a golf cart and need it.

Just a random thought here...but one way you could have done this is retain the original rear set up and modify it to accept a driveshaft from the CB engine...then you could use the original electric motor for reverse.

Good idea, but the electric motor is garbage.  I did however when I cut the motor out was leave the rear frame portion intact to mount the swingarm.

Hehe...  Got motor???  Just doing a dry fit.  Some stuff needs clearancing.  Maybe by the end of the day I will have it mounted and the swing arm modded.
