This spring I was picking up some parts for my 75 550k at the honda dealer when a 79 glory red and black CBX pulls in. I had never seen one in person and it was nice. It didnt have original pipes and he had polished everything that could be polished.  He had owned it a long time and just retired here at sun city! And I thought I had the only cool Hondas around. It did look like he was climbing off a desk when he parked it. And Honda could build something new and outrageous but I cant afford it can you? What does a hayabusa cost?  $16k+.. I paid less for my 350f than a monthly payment on one of them.

What are you talking about, that chopper is amazing! In what other time in history have the style of bikes got THAT outlandish. Its ridiculous and I love it. Someone needs to save a few of those time capsules before they all get 'restored" :'(  I would think that around the time these bikes were new there were more customized ones rolling around than stock. If only I was around to see them :D

You have a point. It's like custom vans with murals, wire wheels and shag carpet and corvettes with flared wheel arches and diamond pleated velvet interiors.

Ok so the price is high but what do you expect from a dealer even private sale no one in there right mind would spend months restoring a cbx then sell it cheap, Its well i just cant explain it in words i aint got 10k to spend on one maybe 5k but il wait im sure il find one sitting in a shed or garage some where neglected.

Dids i was referring to the price of insane new fast bikes like the (ugly imho hayabusa) If honda built the bike to show the world could you or the general public afford to buy it? I would spend $$$ on a nice clean CBX . It would be at least half the price of the fastest thing on earth for 2010. Did i just type 2010? Wow. I wonder if that retro cb1100f will really show up? Also its cost?

Chris, you should see Trig Westby's CBX in person.  No, what you should REALLY do is HEAR it!!!  It isn't a trailer queen and it is absolutely unbelievable.   And, he does all of the work himself.  The sidecar Harley and the RC30 in the picture belong to him too.  And he is a really nice guy.  I am sure he will have some of his stuff at http://www.brooksidemotorcyclecompany.com/event_calendar.asp.  I plan to take my CB350F and CB77.  There are always a lot of cool bikes there.

...i'll wait im sure il find one sitting in a shed or garage some where neglected.

That's a tough plan on a CBX.  It just is so outrageously hard to bring back a neglected CBX - too much complication, too much to go wrong, too much expense, too much... well everything.

Here's my 79.  I've owned it for fifteen years now and have had essentially no failures.  If you keep up with the maintenance, they're no big deal.  I'd rather do a valve check on this bike than my FJR.  I'd guess mine is worth $10K or a little better.

Oh man - Memories!!!

This looks just like the one my buddy had back in the day.  I could smoke him in the (tight part of) the canyon on my CB900F - but his CBX it was a rocket straight, and the sound as he blew by...

Always lusted after that bike.  (never told him tho...).  Skered me when I rode it...

Somehow I don't think of a Z-28 (or a Duster) and Sweden at the same time.

Oh yeah that CBX winding out was wild. I'd never heard it before.

Thanks for the invite! I'll blend in! You may not get rid of me now!  ;D

Not sure where you want me to start but in a nut shell, 1980 CBX I bought off Craigslist in Jan 08. It was totally stock except for a 6-1 header. I stripped it, installed a GSXR front end, a VFR rear end, added a Duc subframe and tail, fabbed up the exhaust, updated the electrical, clean, paint, etc. Most everything was used, ebay, local salvage. I did all the work myself, at my house, in my garage. I could go on. Any specifics? I'll bore you with the details if ya like! Rick

Ok then, here goes,

I skinned my fingers, cussed, #$%*ed, moaned, drank a beer, threw tools, smashed a few parts, stripped threads, burned myself, drank a few beers, tripped on the air hose, busted my knee, tore my pants, drank a few more beers, fired up the grinder, not good, caught my shirt, it spun around, hit me in the chin, damn near knocked me out, came to, called my buddy, he brought more beer, I felt better, and............that was just the first day of the build!

Day two…………

pedantic
1. ostentatious in one's learning.
2. overly concerned with minute details or formalisms, esp. in teaching.

For those of us not good with the words thing.

Man, that single side swingarm CBX is cool.

Saw a CBX on the street last nite, the kind with factory bags & fairing.

There was one for sale here in town, at 7 or 7.5 K..
