Tank swap

Any reason why a K6 tank won't fit on a K8 frame? I know the petcock is on the other side. But I can deal with that...

You will have one small problem. I just put a K2 tank on my K8 (I just like the look of the older tanks so much better).
On the two straight tubes that many people remove to service the engine in frame, there is a little welded on tab on the left side that is used to hold wires in place. This may hit the older style tank and cause it to sit lop-sided on the frame. Either remove this tab (who needs it, really) or bag it down flat against the frame rail and the tank will fit fine.
