I had seen a few carb questions that I did not have the expertise to answer and thought to myself..."hey, TT will answer that and I can again learn from him."  But no TT and no answer.  I thought, am I the only one noticing he was not there or did I just miss his answer.  Anyway, welcome back TT.  It is no secret you were missed and don't stay away so long next time.  Heck, at least have your Mom tell us where you are... ;D

Lloyd,

Welcome back and I'm glad you're OK. Take care of yourself and age well with the rest of us geezers.

Jerry

ps read OTC labels if you have a desire to take something. No aspirin/salicylate containing products or anti inflammatories with warfarin. It's not that it can't be done it just needs to be done correctly! Also stay away from green leafy vegetables. The vitamin K they contain may counteract the warfarin. Again it's not that you can't have these but they must be consumed correctly. Hopefully you won't be on thinners very long.

Feeling pretty good, now.  The hip/leg issues were actually back issues pinching nerves; herniated disk, and a bit of arthritis.  I still have to get treatment/therapy for this.

Aha, I think I can relate to this problem that you have TT. And perhaps I can help by telling you the experience we had with lower back problems. My missus has been suffering the same symptoms for almost a year. Initially she was almost completely bed-ridden, the pain was so bad she lost her appetite (now, for my missus THAT'S BAD :D :D) but with the help of Tramadol (an opiate based pain killer) swimming exercises 3 times a week and nordic walking she's 85% of the way back to what she used to be. She used to have osteotherapy once a week, but this is down to about once every 20 days or so. She reckons it was the nordic walking that started the recovery, ok she was ribbed a lot by her friends and colleagues about it (looking for some snow, love??) but she improved by leaps and bounds (figurative speech, there) since being introduced to it. Also, her employer provided her with a "Pallo chair". It's actually a normal office chair but instead of the flat seat part there's a large inflatable rubber ball in a kind of cradle, which enables her to flex her lower back whilst sitting at her desk.

Her advice is: immobility is your enemy!

Glad to hear you are in the clear on that pneumonia, Lloyd!  Gotta watch that bleeding, man.  It is not just the open wounds, but also bruising that can really screw you up, so follow your doctors' advice, and take a break from riding.  I know from experience that you will enjoy it much more when you can get back in the saddle, too.

Get better soon!

TT, regardless of members crapping their pants, thanks for the update. ;-) I do not want to encourage you to do anything you shouldn't; however, my Uncle, who is one who can't sit still, had been on Coumadin for years (he may still be on it), and he didn't allow it to slow him down. He's in his late 70's now. Until I read your post, I didn't realize that folks on Coumadin are supposed to avoid work that could cause injury. I'm not sure if he's still on it, but he's a guy that won't ever slow down. I do know that balancing Coumadin levels is hugely important and is an ongoing effort. Too much Coumadin, and you would be much more prone to hemorrhaging.

It's good to hear that you're on the mend.

Hey TT,

Glad to hear you are back.  You are right.  Good health is something to be appreciated.  I always felt bullet proof having been very physically active.  Now I pay the price for some of my over-zealous activity.

I lost my Godfather a week and a half ago to respiratory failure at age 64.  Asbestosis, smoking, steel mills all contributed.  Unfortunately he wouldn't see a doctor and he was one of those guys your doc was talking about when he said "a couple more days".

Great to have you back!

One thing, stock up on GOOD model aircraft grade super glue, generally called CA+. If you get a small nick or cut, you can use it to seal your skin so you do not bleed like a stuck pig. I have used it on many cuts and even long and somewhat deep cuts, as in 2mm, close well.

Blood clots are nasty things.

I've had pretty good health most of my life, and it is easy to take that for granted.  Our bodies are actually quite fragile.  Those of you with good reliable health should take the time to appreciate what you have.  Pretty much guaranteed it won't last forever.  Trust me.  Looking back after an event like this will cause high lament for what you once had.

True words, Lloyd.  I've been lucky, too, but have had injuries that laid me up, and also a memorable bout with pneumonia that took the wind out of my sails for awhile.  (I'd have been history without the antibiotics.)  I decided if there is a positive aspect to being sick, it is that it shows us not to take good health for granted and to make good choices.

Your challenge is to not go stir crazy while on light duty.  Good luck with that, and all the best.

Go after cures aggressively; try not to let a lot of smaller ailments add up,
and...Get well soon!

P.S. think of Coumadin as a necessary short term evil - its rat poison, not a cure

Thanks for all your kind words.

This is my first post since going to the Hospital on the 17th.  I was admitted with what turned out to be pneumonia and pulmonary embolism(s).  Most of my right lung didn't work, and maybe 75% of the left one was still functioning. Onlyy reason I could still breathe at all is the pain pills I was taking.  Without them, I couldn't take more than an 1/8 of a breath.  It was a pretty debilitating experience just to struggle to breathe.
Doctor said I wouldn't have lasted more than few more days without effective treatment.  I was released today.  So, I'm seeing home for the first time since the 17th.

Feeling pretty good, now.  The hip/leg issues were actually back issues pinching nerves; herniated disk, and a bit of arthritis.  I still have to get treatment/therapy for this.

The blood clots in the lung meant I was put on Coumadin (blood thinners).  This keeps the blood clots from forming.  However, blood clotting is an important mechanism for injury, such as broken bones.  Doc advises against Motorcycle riding as an injury could mean I bleed to death.  (He wasn't too happy about me even working on machines either.  We'll see if I can refrain.)

I didn't have any internet access at the hospital.  I have no laptop.  Which is a pity, as I could have relieved a lot of boredom the last 5-6 days with a laptop.  So, this is the first opportunity I've had to see these forums since the 17th.

There's lots to catch up on here at the house.  So, I don't no how active I'll be for a few days.

This was my first ever hospital admission and first near death medical experience.

Again, thanks for your concern.

Cheers,
Lloyd

TT,

Coumadin/warfarin is not going to cause hemophelia unless it is not regulated properly so do not worry about bleeding to death! Kick back, relax and get better.
