i'm just starting my CB 650 hardtail bobber project.
i blew a 5 inch hole in the crank case and figured it was time to rip the bike apart.

OK...was that an E-Z curl bar you had on there as handle bars?  If so, it looked pretty sweet.  I've got one in the basement collecting dust (on the floor next to the storage shelf I used to call a weight bench).  I might pull it out and see how it looks.

when i got the bike it had the stock bars on it and i hated them so i took on of the bars from an old weight machine

So are you planning a true hard tail frame or are you going to install struts where your shocks were?  I think I'm going to build a bobber style bike with my 550.  I don't have the tools for a lot of fabrication so I think I'm going with struts.

And what are those little bracket things again?  Hard Tail drop outs?

it will be a true hard tail. i am replacing the back 3/4 of the back bone, and welding on to the pipeing. the frame cut out is for the right side of the frame where the botom of the frame has to come out for the motor to come out. as well as possibly converting to jockey shift with a hand clutch.
i am also doing a fake oil bag for my electronics and battery. and possibly narrowing the tank to a more peanut shape

i like the look your starting with. i'm interested to see how this turns out. maybe i'll fallow your lead with my 650 next winter.   nice hole in the crankcase by the way

1980 cb650c first bike i owned now the wife's ride.           1982 xv920j virago, bike i learned to ride on rescued it from a 13 year coma (sitting in the shed) now she runs beautifully and rides like a dream.

I plan on building a bobber one day (after the Cafe') and I'm digging your start.  I like the curl bar better then the Ape Hangers, but of course, that's a personal preference.  Keep it coming!

just thought i would post an update. my life has been busy with the birth of my son Jaxon Cru. but i have done a little work.


couldn't help but to put my son on here

the template for my pan seat

double up the template onto 16 gauge steel

adding a curve to the seat

final bare seat pan.
i am going to foam and cover it in black leather.


new seat pan and the new sportster king tank on the stock frame.

the new rear end and back bone all bent and ready to be installed

new rear fender it going to just be a flat fender with 1/4 inch round welded to the bottom of each edge.


thats all for now

but i really need to picka color your guy's input would be awesome. i'm going mid 70's style bobber

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

theres a motorcycle wrecker in calgary. i can pick up any motor for $1 a cc

Do you mean jockey shift and FOOT clutch, or a hand clutch on the jockey shifter?
I like the fake oil bag to hide the electrics.

If you get in a pinch, you could throw a 550 motor in there, and gain a kicker.
A little less motor, but as you are reducing weight already, you might not really notice any less power.

A kicker.
The 1 think I think they should STILL have on bikes.

Honestly that sounds expensive.  I have seen whole engines on here for $100.  I couldn't imagine paying $650 for a used engine.   Keep your eyes on the guys parting out bikes.  You may find something good.

jockey shift with hand clutch on the shifter.
the bike threw a rod. it snapped half way up and came right out crank case.
140 km/h with a oil coated rear tire is suer scary to stop

87mph... yeah, thats freaky with that much oil...

I'm seriously interested what RPM you were doing, redline shifts?
Or were you too busy accelerating to notice?  ;D ;D

oh,it's awesome....i took me abit to get used to it,but now i will never go back to foot shift...just love it...
taking off fast is a bit of a learning curve,due to the one hand on handle bar thing,but once you got that down,it's like any other bike....
only real danger i could see with it,is when your engine seizes up at high speed and you have to pull the clutch in while also keeping the bike under control....but hey,it's a honda,they don't seize.... ;D ;D ;D

 just finished my seat today.

marking out the holes

holes drilled

painted with duplicolor high heat silver

foamed

holes poked in foam

finished in embossed in horned croc hide

the painted and finished underside
