Anyone done this with a rear cowl?
« on: December 02, 2008, 12:55:18 PM »
I have a 750F and am thinking about doing something like Ducati does with the SportClassic 1000 S in hiding a dual seat under a removable cowl.
http://www.ducati.com/en/bikes/my2009/ModelPage.jhtml?family=SportClassic&model=SCSPORT1000S-09

Has anyone here tried this and have photos?  I think I can extend my stock cowl with fiberglass and add some latches.  Thoughts?

I sort of envision it looking something like this quick photoshop mockup.  I also stretched the tank in this photo to look like the one I am making.

Check out SteveF yellow CB750 - I think he did that with his rear cowl.

Awesome!  does it just pop off or is it bolted on?  My initial thought was to use latches but now I think I want it to just pop on and off to keep it cleaner looking.  Thanks for sharing.

uses 2 allen heads ( 1 per side) ...plus the rear tailight sits flush with the cowl so that helps keep it on from the back....when the cowl is off the female end is flush with the seat cover material so I dont have to worry about the wifey catching her leg on anything...

That seat does look nice.  I would consider going that route but I cant get my wife on a bike to save my life, so it would be a waist of money for me, but again it does look nice.    Chris

I already have a 2 up tail on mine that is only help on by the stock pins.  There is also a light mounted underneath it which has three wires.  When I want the solo tail I just pull the wires and the pins and make the swap.

I am not putting down the idea of riding 2up on these bikes but two bikes should be more enjoyable in its place.  This is my goal once I get to a stopping point on the wifes ride.

To me, riding 2up is better enjoyed on a much larger bike with ammenities.  I just may be spoiled to that on my XVZ12DN.  But that bike has plenty of power and handles corners surprisingly well, even though it was born in '85.

I do like that seat though!  I will look good on your bike.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

2-up can be done...10 days camping and hiking in the Adirondacks...but with that said I would agree with Giga -would be easier and more comfortable on a larger bike.

In my particular situation I have a wife that has no interest in long hauls on a bike and doesn't have an interest in learning to ride.  She likes quick trips now and then and looked a little dejected when I put a cafe seat on my 350.

Certainly a large bike with all the amenities is nice and maybe one day I'll get her to try it.  Even better, maybe I'll get her to learn how to ride.  For now I think this will do and more importantly will be fun fabricating.

Andy, that's a great photo and I bet the trip was a blast.

I got lucky.  The wife had no interest in riding.  A year or two ago, I bought her a helmet and jacket for Christmas.  She didn't care much for me doing that but after all my nagging, she hopped on.  After about three rides, she started to make plans for riding.  Then, she got her motorcycle license for my birthday and said she thoroughly enjoyed riding the class bike.  Now she has her own and now she is nagging me to hurry up and finish it.  I am close, I am just anal.

Her changing over was mostly on her own.  There might be something to work with there.

The first gen Ventures are affordable.

Yea, the fabricating looks fun, I need to gain some of those skills.

That home built backrest looks comfy Andy.

That was made of a tent, sleeping pads, backpack and another bag...lashed together with bungee cords  ;D The g/f had to get on first as she couldnt do it with me on the bike due to the saddlebags...fun,fun...was a great trip! Had to ride everywhere...even at campsite it was 4 miles to the showers so we would ride there and then coming back we would have a bunch of firewood resting on the tank - bought 6 miles away at a local camping store.
