Gauge Restore Expoxy
« on: December 06, 2008, 10:40:35 AM »
I'm in the middle of restoring my gauges using some replica decals I got off eBay. The instructions
call for Scotch-Weld DP-105 or DP-125 two part epoxy for putting the gauge case back together.
That crap is expensive and takes a gun of some sort I don't have.

Anyone else find any off the shelf stuff that works just as well??

Thanks.

I used a little JB weld on the ring and Clamped it down with a hose clamp (really 2 hose clamps put together).  I only really used it where the ring ends come together so that I can take it apart later.

Ditto on the JB Weld only I used a number of large elastic bands wrapped around the gauge to hold the ring in place. If you have painted the outside of the gauge don't use the elastic bands until the paint has a good time to set.

The 3m stuff is very pricey, but does seal the instruments. It comes in a dual syringe type tube that lays out two paralell beads, like some epoxy glues. The one I bought was about 30.00. Gauge decals were from roberth9 on ebay, and fwiw they did turn out nice. I'd think tho that it'd be hard to take them apart afterwards.

Hmm. Got some JB weld. That'll work.

Brings up another question.. the black part of my gauges are pretty bad shape. Can't tell for
sure if they were originally a gloss black or a satin black. How were they originally??

I did the guages on my 750k7 about a year ago. I just used regular silicone gasket maker (black). I put it together and used a ring compressor to hold it together overnite.  works great , looks great, and has sealed the guages perfectly.
