Topic: my sons first porn site visit LOL

I  got up this morning was having some coffee and my son comes in and says"I think the computer has a virus" and acts wayyyyyy nervous. I tell him it's ok, I'll check it out in a bit. I wasn't too worried. I've been a computer tech for ten years. During the clean up I  check where the computer has been and it seems that my 11 year old son has visited his first porn site while everyone was asleep. I remember being his age, and now I'm not sure if I should tell him to not visit those sites or show him the safe ones.
BTW it took 2 hours to clean the 5 virus's that infected the PC.
I'm also thinking it might be time for the "TALK"
Why do I feel like giggling when thinking about all this?
Also, should I give him the serious talk or the "It's like pokemon. Gotta catch 'em all" but wear protection talk?

when my dad caught me with my first porn (in the form of hustler) he and i had the talk and instead of punishing me for having the porn, he let me look at his playboys occasionally. i think this is why i have a good, normal attitude about that kind of stuff now, he didnt demonize the stuff or punbish me for looking, he just controlled my access. this is back in the latre 70's early 80's btw

This may sound strange coming from me, but I think 11 is a bit early to be visiting porn sites. Back in the day along with the other old farts on this thread we may come across a nude or two, may be score a well worn Playboy. The stuff on the web can be downright ugly and perverse. I would simply put a filter on the machine, or password protect the machine so that he can be supervised. I would not make a big deal about it. No punishment or anything.

I was never confronted by my folks as a kid although when I was about 15 a stash of really good magazines went missing from between the matresses of my bed -- no one in the house said a word.

I have two daughters ages 12 & 13 and I haven't seen anything in the logs from our home network that I didn't expect. They know I log access so I expect they're careful what they access from the home computers.

I  am going to  check the log files a bit more often though, and maybe limit access from the firewall. Frankly, I'm more worried about what he might soon be doing with his classmates. I've seen the gals in his class. If I was his age I would be after most of them. BTW when did 11 year old girls develop full breast? I don't think they had those when I was 11

The age of kids 'exploring' these days really amazes me.  At that age, I'd be curious, but it wasn't 'interesting' the way it is now, if that makes sense.  I 'explored' at 14 in online games, but that was an interesting sort of 'education'... but if I had a kid that age doing things like that with people online I'd freakin' flip.     Still, I didn't need any kinda 'talk' from my parents.  Later on, I got hold of the "Guide to Getting it On" (google it, awesome book) and I'm still pretty convinced a lot of peoples' lives would be better off if they read that book when they were coming of age.

As far as girls maturing super fast... I was one of those girls that was a 'late bloomer' (probably right on cue) but there were plenty of girls in my class around 11-12 who were hitting puberty, 13 year olds talking about sex...  . So weird.  I wonder if it has anything to do with hormones in the water supply/food/etc.  Until I was 16, I was waaaay more interested in video games and hunting/fishing than anything from that adult sorta realm.
