Did honda make a seat lock for a k0/k1? I have a 1971 CB750. I am going to purchase a new seat and I don't want it stolen. If not can I modify the seat latch and use a small lock? My other option is to use a seat latch and lock from a newer year but I will need all the parts that attach to the seat and frame.

they did have a seatlock, i recently broke down a clapped out 69' k0 and it had the seat lock/helmet holder. way different from the one on my k4.

The K0 didn't really have a 'lock.' It was a spring loaded, U-shaped affair that would hook into the sliding latch to keep it from accidently opening. I don't think a true lock with a key came into the picture until the K1.

My K1 just has the non-locking latch, too.

Hi guys.Not sure when lock was first installed but it will interchange on early machines that came with latch only.I put one on my K0. Rock On

safety lever changed at 1000264

complete lock changed K2

If you want to keep the early style but with a lock the early 500 used the hook type with a key lock, full assembly part number 77230-323-010.

Cant guarantee it will fit but the later lock is a 750 part and will fit

If I can I would like to keep the hook from the original seat and use a lock from a later year.If so what year or part number and where can I buy one. Or my other option is to change the latch on the seat with a matching lock from a later year. But then again what year and where do I buy one.

The early hook won't work with the later lock, as the later lock accepts a round pin with a notch rather than a flat hook. You have to use both pieces as a set. Also, the mounting holes on the seat pan are different between the early and later models, I think. The latch will bolt right up on the frame though. I have a K0 and have had both systems on the bike, but my seat is not stock.

If anyone has a complete later seat lock with the part that mounts to the seat I may be intrested in buying one. Or might even trade my old latch in on one. I haven't purchased the seat yet so I might go with a later seat so I can use some sort of lock. I have the early hook latch from my 71k1

I would trade you a seat latch from a K3 or K6 for your K1 latch assembly (the seat hooks and frame piece). The only thing is I don't have the key for it but the number, T7796, is on the frame part and you should be able to get a key cut or get one from Honda I hope.

My bad, I guess the lock w/key arrangement started sometime 'after' the K1.

Yes, the K1 doesn't "lock". The KO had the little u shaped loop to secure the seat latch and a single hook on the seat. The K1 did not have the loop and had two hooks on the seat one of which was spring loaded - it was the safety latch.

I bought a tank off of ebay and i was able to use my stock key for the latch on the tank. Is this true for the seat lock? cause if it is you wouldn't need the key for Magpie's lock

I think the seat lock, ignition and fork lock are all the same key for the bike with the locking seat. I believe that latch on the tank can be opened with a scewdriver too, they was not a specific key for them. It was a "safety" feature Honda did after there was some concern the original latchs might accidently release spilling gas everywhere.

did you ever find the seal latch you were looking for? Selling your K1 latch? I'll make an attempt to get a key for the one I have if that will help you any.

No seat lock yet. I have a 1971 CB750 I'm going to cafe. I am going to buy a seat from classic city cycle. They do not have any in stock with the old style latch like the one on my bike so they have to make one. I contacted them about two weeks ago and said that I'm in no hurry and that it will be about a month before I make the purchase. But I started to think about how good the new seat will look and the price I will pay for is half the price I paid for my bike last year. So I don't want someone to steal it. That's why I want options for a lock. If I'm going to use a later lock I can contact classic city cycle and tell them that I need a later year seat and what I'm doing. My outher option is to use Carpy's the duck seat, but then again I need a lock.

Allow me to point out that you don't need to open the seat in order to hotwire a 71 CB750.

Having a seat lock probably won't affect your likelihood of having it stolen.

I don't want anybody to steal the new seat that I'm going to purchase soon. It costs half price I paid for my bike. As for stealing the bike the best that I can do is probably a lock for the brake rotor. That's why I have insurance for.
