Hi all,
I have my CB750K2 engine opened up (lower cases) and I am trying to remove the transmission shaft bearing (#6304HS) - this is the one that sits in between the cases and connects the shaft to the gear box mechanism. Ive tried to remove the bearing but its stuck on there tight....Ive tried to bash it off using a screwdriver in the groove and a mallet but the bearing keeps spinning....not wanting to damage the final gear (dont care about the bearing as I have a Honda replacement) - what can I do?? Any bearing removal tricks I should know about???

BTW this problem arose when we replaced this bearing last time...a OEM replacement bearing was used (SGK) same # 6304NS but the bearing groove for the set ring clip is the wrong size when compared with stock Honda replacement....the OEM bearing worked with a custom made set ring clip (made from a piston ring) but this didnt work when engine was under load = crunhing noises!)....which is why i am now doing it all properly!

Thanks for any help with this (and thanks to Brent in Quebec for sending me the correct set ring A (now discontinued from all Honda stockists (dealers, servicehonda.com, partsfiche.com etc....only DSS had them!).
Cheers

No I dont Axl unfortunately...but I just had a thought...If I put the bearing in a vice and clamp it and then use a drift to punch the shaft out this should release the bearing from the shaft. Ill try it when I get home from work and let you know if Im successful. Thanks

or even better, close the vice a bit more and let the bearing rest on the vice instead of clamping it in.  That way woul wont put additional axial stress on the bearing, and it should come off easier.

When you put on the new bearing, make sure, you drive it on only by pressing on the inner ring, not the outer.

Good luck and let us know how it works out!

Hey Axl,
I tried the vice thing last night - clamping it on the outside (radially?) and then using a drift to push the center shaft but to no avail...that bearing is stuck on there good! Im looking for a bearing puller now :-) Otherwise its down to the local bike shop and see if they can help....its holding back my rebuild now!
Thanks for the ideas.
Cheers
