K4 swing arm bearing.
« on: September 24, 2013, 12:40:17 PM »
When I replaced the swing arm bushing on my 750K6 it was just a couple of plastic-like bushings that were easily sawed out.  The grease nipple is in the center.  I installed the bronze bushings and greased it until the grease oozed out.  Ride much improved.

I just removed a swing arm from our 750K4.  I removed the shaft but the swing arm seems to have a  bearing the entire width of the swing arm.  The grease nipples are at both ends of the swing arm shaft.  How do you remove the bearing?  Can it be replaced with the aftermarket bronze bearing? Should it be replaced?

I think you still have the sleeve in the swing arm.  This is what should all come out, except the phenolic bushings would be metal for K4

Prokop...I don't think that is what a 74 swingarm looks like.  The bearings don't have the lip like your picture shows and there are phenolic inserts along with felt washers.  Plus the swingarm doesn't have the grease opening in the center.  I will see if I can dig up some pics of mine.

Couldn't find any pics so here is the ipb picture.

Ahh gotcha

Ron...the collar (10) should be able to be tapped out.  Be careful not to damage the end in doing so.  The bearings or bushings (7) can be sawed out.  I used a hacksaw blade and ran it through the opening.  I made two cuts in each bushing about 1/4" apart so I could pry out the center piece.  After that I was able to tap the bushings out.  When you are cutting be very careful when you get close to cutting through.

Once I had everything out I opted to have Hondaman replace the bushings and collar since mine was severely pitted.
