Trade one of your bikes for a mint M1?
« on: March 02, 2009, 08:32:16 AM »
A guy in VT I have been talking to is looking to trade his M1 for a bike.  I know a lot of folks here don't like guns and that's you business, but enough do that I think it's worth posting.  He's going to need 650cc or bigger due to his size (6ft 330lbs) and he's located in Milton VT.  If I lived closer, I sell my daily driver to this guy considering how nice this set up is.

Here's the package he has.

"The rifle comes with a DGR Leather Sling, Bayonet, chamber brush, Buttstock cleaning kit, gun bag (repro), 1 5rd and 1 2rd enbloc, 240 rds of Korean on Enblocs, 400 rounds of Korean in boxes, and a handful of Enblocs.
This is what I'm looking for. I'm looking for a street bike, not a crotch rocket, on/off road or dirt bike, basket case. 1970-1980 years will be considered."

His email is rvulcan500@myfairpoint.net  Just let him know cleveland sent you, so he knows where you got his info from.

I nearly got one from a company that restores them then turns them around- alas, they wouldn't accept an IOU.

My grandmother assembled them in WW II at the Springfield Armory here in Massachusetts.

Really nice set up; I wish him luck.

This was the company I had in mind; there are others I've seen since then.

Much like my bike, I don't need anything THAT nice...     ;)

Plus, don't put those crap Korean rounds through that thing.  WAY too corrosive.

Still, it's a nice set-up.

Those are nice!  I am more of a shooter quality kind of guy myself.  No safe queens in my house, I shoot them all.  ;D  Have you checked out CMP?

Firecracker is right on with it being too nice.  I rode my bike new years day, I take my guns hunting, and the last thing I would want is to ruin a collector quality gun/bike with heavy use.  I've been thinking about selling one of the kids to get the rifle.  Anyone want an 8 year old boy?  He eats a lot, has issues with authority, and rarely does his chores with out threats of punishment.  He comes with toys though.  :D

that Garand is one of the best actions ever made. Shooters ought to be taken care of and always look nice.  ;D ;D
I suppose it's the 30-06 and not a 308 conversion from the looks of the rounds.

My M1 could use a buddy in the rife cabinet... ;D

The M1 is the nicest-shooting firearm I've ever tried.

Nah, I don't want the old man to go any where. The old man is the whole reason I'm here. Both on Earth and the forum lol, he got me into bikes by giving me my weekend fix on his Seca, now I'm addicted worse than a crack head.

He does let me borrow it as long as I clean it.

Is it a Springfield? I think Winchester made some. Singer sewing might of made a few plus other companies. All to support the war of course but some of the off brand ones Im sure command an extreme price with the correct provance? Like Arsenal markings and such. It looks great but to me it looks restored so the value could be diminished somewhat. You really need a good reference book to catch those sort of details. There are still alot of Garands out there.

When many rifles were decommissioned after the war, the receivers were cut in half. Some imposters tried welding them back together and assembled complete rifes with them, leaving some folks wondering who "Springchester" and Winfield" arms were...

an ashtray made from the bottom of a 5" shell.

I saw one of those on gunboards a month or two ago.  Pretty neat.

If we're talking military "inventions", this is BY FAR, my favorite (Viet Nam era).

(Don't have these, so I had to Photoshop a rough mock-up)

Take these:

Now, I was probably 12 when I saw this, but even I knew it was VERY cool when I saw those two seemingly innocent things become these two AWESOME things:

Yep, a roach clip and a pipe.    :o

Sad, but I'm pretty sure they were destroyed...   :'(

Tell that to the participants of the Mexican war.  ;)
