Topic: Powdercoating fork tubes....

So i think im getting some new (to me, but there off of a 76) fork tubes but the upper parts between the trees are pretty rusted out. not uncommon i know, but rechroming is way too expensive and takes too long for the project at hand. So i was thinking since most of the parts on the bike are painted black, id powdercoat the tops of the fork tubes black as well. With the chrome headlight and headlight mounts i thought it would look great. Any thoughts?

Yes Powdercoat is fairly thick as coatings go. I think a real good sanding, maybe some rust treatment, and then paint with Rustoleum Black would look pretty good. I've even seen some painted with chrome paint, looks good at a glance.  Still might need touchup after sliding them through the clamps. Hold the clamps open with a wedge.

Ya, i was thinking id probobly end up goin the paint route anyhow. Its getting nice out and i really want to get this bike done as well as save some scratch. Sorry about the lack of pics by the way. Camera s#!t the bed, but just picked up a new one so.....

Some time back, someone mentioned going to Home Depot plumbing department and finding thin chrome tubing that matched the CB750 fork tube diameter. If that is correct, it might be a solution for hiding rusty uppers.  RR

It's drain pipe! I belive it comes in 1.25 and 1.5, 35mm = aprox 1.343 sorry the Internet is down on the computer and I am being lazy or I would find a converter, but the 1.25 (1 1/4)   
should work great.

hmmmm. chrome tubings not a bad idea. may have to stop by home depot and check it out.
