Tyres for 500/4
« on: March 04, 2009, 09:48:38 AM »
Hi. I'm about to put new tyres on my 500/4. Has anybody got any suggestions or recommendations? Cheers Phil.

You have a tread pattern in mind? That's a good place to start.

Or riding style is a good place to start also.

Hi. I would prefer a modern tread pattern as I sometimes do so called parade laps on race circuits which can get a bit heated. Upon saying that I have been quoted Metzelers Me11 Front (which is semi ribbed classic style) & Me77 rear but have no idea how they perform on my bike. Cheers Phil.

Metzeler is a good brand although I never use them. Avon would be another brand to look in to as well. I think Michelin also has comparable sizes for the 500.

After that it comes down to size availability. What might be had from one manufacturer will not be an option from another.

Take a look at the Avon Roadrunner (Classic name - modern tyre):

I'm very happy with my Metzlers.
3.25 front lazers.  I think they were ME33 at one time.
4.00 rear ME77.

If you have stock rims, you'll be happier with the standard sizes to fit those narrow 1.85 rims in the long run.

You can scrape the pegs with these tires.  So, unless you are changing the peg height or over springing, these tires have all the traction you can use.
