Just wonder where everyone likes to kick back and do some camping... I live in WNY and get out a little around here. The wife and I bought a popup last year and can't wait to get back out there this year. Here's our pad at Stony Brook...

We used to tent it allot, then we had kids..Stonybrook is nice has 3 big waterfalls and we camp right on the creek. The most important to me is to be by water, lake pond, creek...gives the boys something to do.

Finally got my wife to go camping for the first time when my son joined Cub Scouts. She's still not gung-ho about it, but willing to consider it more (whatever that means).

I have a family of four, and enough gear for 10. If I had my way, we'd be packing it in a few miles away from people. As is, I'm lucky to get the tent more than 40 feet from the truck.

We don't take the dog, but I never thought of bringing my own guard bear...

Yeah, they'll tear into your tent lickity split if you didn't put them in a tree on on a bear proof stand. And if you're in the tent when they come in... well, it can get real unpleasant real quick.

Food in the tent is a big mistake. We never eat or even bring snacks into the tent.

Nothing like sleeping close to a waterfall for a restful nights sleep. Looks like a nice place.

It can't hang to close to a tree trunk so finding the perfect branch can be a problem. Sometimes a small tree trunk can be rigged up between two trees. This spot was not ideal but it worked. Some trips we will see several bears and others none at all. Wolf packs are common in some areas though you will seldom if ever see one, you will hear them at night. Moose are a common sight in some areas too.

There is no way in hell my wife and kids would tent camp...they are spoiled by our tent trailer and usually we stay at Provincial parks WITH electrical hook-ups

Dennis, my wife is the same way. We do a few trips every year that don't have electric or water. She gets all bent out of shape...wants me to get a battery for the pup, I mean popup.

camping is ok... round here though... it gets damn cold unless its late june, july or august.

when we went to vegas on the bikes... we had all our camping gear and never camped once in a week and a half... that was the best camping trip i've ever been on.

Maybe I should have used the term "ox goad" instead.

I never new the real origin of the term. I always assumed it had something to do with the canoe length. This area was long inhabited by Native Americans and later was the main route for the French fur trappers from Lake Superior into the interior of Canada. Many of the portages and campsites have been in use for many hundreds of years.

i used to do alot of horse camping. trailer the critters to a national park or rural./wild area and ride out a day and set up camp, ride in different dierections coming back to camp every evening.
