Serious Motivation For The Frustrated Builder..............
« on: March 27, 2009, 08:53:38 AM »
I was whining to a friend the other day about how looooooong it seems for me to get things done and he sent the following to me. It's for all of us on this forum I think.

People who do what you do, to the degree that you do, deserve a great deal of accolades for your work. It is very tough for people to complete such tasks but even a greater talent to have a vision of the finished product and make the hands do what the mind's eye sees. The only way to complete this kind of undertaking is exactly the way you are.

I've put that beside a picture of what I want my current project to look like. It seems to help when things are just not going the way I want them to.
Cliff.

Thanks for the motivational message Cliff.
Some days I really feel exectly like that.
It takes forever to build with attention to detail.

I don't need to tell you Cliff, but there are times when you feel like nothing is getting done, but all those thoughts are processing in your brain....then bam things start to take shape.

Keep it up man, you do good work.

I found out this year that I have some sort of allergy to certain latex gloves. My hands broke out in a terrible rash. I thought it was chemical related but nope, it's from the gloves I wore to keep my hands grease free. Painful couple of weeks.

All in the fun!

I had one of those bad feelings about my build today.  I wanted to quit.  I took the frame to the powder coaters instead.  I feel better.  Now if I can just find that extra millions dollars I had laying around here......

Nice one Cliff, and I'm stoked to see that you have used one of the pictures I posted up as a screen-saver a year or so back.

My K0 started out as an empty  2 X 1 meter space in my garage and every time I walked past that space I imagined a Candy Ruby Red bike sitting there all restored. Two years later I win the inaugural Bike of the Month on this website with the bike I bought on eBay. I had it shipped to New Zealand out of San Francisco and cleaned it up and got it running.

The power of the mind and imagination shouldn't be underestimated.

Keep up the good work, and we demand more pictures!!

Nice thoughts Cliff - like it a lot.

I find when you get in the garage and nothing goes right, it pays to have more than one project on the go so you can leave the one that's causing you grief and make progress on something else. It's also a great excuse if the wife asks why you have so many bikes and none of them are rideable  :D

I also like a Henry Ford quote when I get to a stuck point in a build - "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're probably right". You just got to keep thinking you can...

Good stuff guys! the other one a friend told me is "If it's not going well and you want to throw something or just give up, cover it up and walk slowly away. it's amazing what a break from it will do!"
Pictures? Not much to show right now. As I do something I box it up in small totes. The motor is still apart, frame etc needs painting ( I just bought a paint spayer to learn how to do that), parts still coming in from all over. The latest is a K1 swingarm from Florida. I have to sell my fishing boat to make more work room as another CB750 may be arriving.
I think I may have to take a deep breath and start a thread in the projects section although I have slowed up a bit with life getting in the way.
Here's some pics from the Fall:

A few thoughts..
You have to get to a place where " CAN " becomes bigger in your mind than "cant" & "dont think I can do that"

I know people that own equipment and are afraid to use it because they  "THINK they CANT".. but the reality is They dont take the time to "DO IT"

I try to drew a bit of inspiration from others that have done great things.. which show that you CAN..

Its THE BRITTENS, NESSs, GOLDAMMERS , BRODIEs, MONROEs and others that prove that you can do those things, iF you let yourself..and put in the TIME..

.. so you got to decide....is yardwork more important than building bikes.. ???

Great thoughts, Cliff and everyone!  The lack of deadlines in a builder's dream makes the task more satisfying. When I build for others, I spend way too much time making excuses (lies) for the delays or my wayward ventures onto other projects in my garage.  The only racing in my garage has been from the bench, that is until I get my T20 short-tracker together and build my "stock" CB750 K2 for AHRMA racing.
