350F FLOAT HEIGHTS PLEASE!!!!
« on: April 01, 2009, 07:21:25 AM »
Thanks for reading.
I was having high rpm bogging, and was checking all things that could affect my AFR.
I did not do a pre-measurement of my float heights, but reset them all to 21mm as suggested in CLYMER. they were all much higher than that, and thought this might be my problem.

I've had my carbs off, and re-set my float heights 5 times since, in the last week.
From the CLYMER 21mm,  Hondaman's 22mm-24mm suggestion: jumping all the way up to 27mm (where they are now)  just to get my bowl tubes to stop overflowing.  they overflowed at all settings below 24mm.

Here's what i know, and what i've confirmed with Hondaman in other correspondence.
1. yes, they are installed correctly
B. yes, they are moving freely and compressing the valve as they should
3. yes, i'm measuring correctly, while barely compressing the valve.

when the carbs are installed on my bike, and i measure the fuel height from the outside of the bowl, the fuel level is now 5mm below the o-ring seam between the bowl and the carb, using the clear tubing out the drain hole technique.

What i'd like to know is,  what are the float heights you all are set at, and at what fuel level(mm) have you observed/measured outside your bowls?

Thanks all.
i think i have it in me to pull the carbs 1, maybe 2 more times.  :P

if they are overflowing (leaking?)... you should be worried about the float pin seal seating correctly in the carb.  that is all.

Heffay ~ thanks!
I'm sure they are good, and their sealing o-rings are spankin' new.  They've stopped leaking, but only now at 27mm's  :)

(But, if my floats arent set to the correct height, i cannot, by deduction, tell if the leak is from something else)

who's got measurements for me!?   ;D
I just want to confirm if i'm close (to perfect).

Honda service Letter SL58 12/14/73
CB-350F 21.0 mm
Measured from the carb body gasket surface with no gasket to the top of the float when the "tang" is resting on the spring loaded pin but not compressing it

Then there is another problem or incorrect parts

D@MN!
not what i wanted to hear. :D
when i got the bike, most of the jets were discolored, so i bought rebuild kits (keyster brand) and the bike ran fine.  i just recently adjusted them when i noticed their heights were out of sorts trying to fix my 1/2 to full throttle (above 5000rpm) bogging.
the floats are NOT updside down.

if i reset to 21mm, what should the fuel height be if measured from the outside of the bowl?
measuring the space between the fuel mark and the carb body gasket surface.
Thats really the measurement that matters, right?

stumped....again.

You should check the float pins (the ones that go through the float into the towers)  Mine were VERY tough to get in and out and some had marks on them from pliers.  I replaced them all and the floats actually work now and the gas leak has stopped. The top of the float should run parallel to the carb bowel and create a straight line, so that when you look at it the float should not go up/down hill.
