1972 CB350F Pipes - Question
« on: May 15, 2009, 05:26:17 PM »
The good news - my original, shiny, rust free 4-4 pipes are here.   ;D

The bad news - it is not clear to me how you get the 1 piece finned collar on/off the pipe of a one piece muffler.    The 4-2 pipes on there now seperate at the pipe/muffler junction, so you can slide it off the bottom.  The OEM one piece header/muffler does not allow that.  Should the collar slide on/off?  One of the new pipes has a collar, the other 3 do not.  Can I force the collar over the pipe?  Or is there a trick?

If I recall correctly....and its been a while.

On the 350/400 (I've done both) the collar should slip over the flange...then the two "U" shaped pieces are installed. The halves of the "U" shaped pieces are what push on the exhaust flange when the clamps are tightened on thier two bolts

Thanks.  I've ordered the brackets from David Silvers.  Once they are here I'll see for sure.  In the meantime its too nice not to ride...

OK, do these 4-4 pipes make my butt looks big?

Seriously, the collars did just slip over.  One was a little snug.   The rest of the assembly was a bit of a jigsaw puzzle (hint - assemble the pipes on the bracket, don't tighten up the nuts on the bracket much, tighten the connecting clamp, and then install).

Pretty pipes, though I don't much care for chrome. What is the indent on the lower right pipe for?

To clear the axle when you remove the rear wheel, I think.

The indent is just to let the nut go up and down and be loosened.

Dont they look good with the 4 pipes tho' and does it run right?
