What an idiot I am!!! Help : (
« on: May 30, 2009, 03:54:14 PM »
My video pretty much explains it. I was trying to get a 3 mm throw out on the left side, but the darn thing wouldn't move.

So stupid me decides to loosen all spokes and try from scratch....mind you, I've only done 2 wheels for fixing minor lateral run outs.

What do I do?? Please be very specific....and I've looked through the other topics on this, but I don't seem to be getting the hang of it.

Please explain things for a 5 year old....I'm serious ::)

Thanks

I don't understand what you were trying to do.....

True it up?

I do mine with the tire off.

True left/right runout then do the circum.
Stranger in a strange land

steel rims are a lot harder than the aluminum most of us work with. Whats the history? Was it ever knocked, hit a pot hole hard etc? Sometimes steel rims are not truable.

Having the tire on will make it harder, you've let the air out?

More after the history.

Well, I finally figured out what I did wrong ::)

This was helpful after the fact.

I did the complete opposite. After putting 1 min of my time into this method, lets just say, were looking much better.

I don't have any vertical hop, so that's a good thing. And your suppose to do the vertical first, than horizontal, just to let you know.

This site was very helpful.

It was never hit or anything like that, and it's moving the way I want it so we'll see....lets hope I don't need a new rim.

What should I use to make the nipples on the spokes easier to turn??

easier turning:
take the tire off, at least let the air out. The rim band will be pressed hard onto the nipple head otherwise.
put some penetrating oil onto the threade. Just a drop with the spoke ponting down should wick into the threads.
If you feel like actually pulling the nipples off (one at a time!) a smear of antiseize on the threads and under the nipple head works wonders. some old-timers will caution against this, but I've never had any trouble with spokes loosening themselves.
