PO Woes..
« on: July 30, 2009, 12:54:52 PM »
The previous owner of my 78 750ss, for some reason, cut off the seat lock receptacle from the frame.  Why? I have no clue.  I would really like to be able to lock my seat so no one nabs my helmet.  I'm thinking I could buy a frame in unusable condition and just hack off the receptacle from that one and weld it onto mine, but I don't really know what the whole setup looks like.

My question is, would anyone be willing to take/post/share a photo of the seat lock for me?  It would really come in handy.

Thanks in advance everyone.

These are from my 78F. I have the tape bumped up flush against the seam of that bracket welded over the rear wheel well. That get you what you need?

Michrobi, AWESOME pics! Thanks so much, those pics are more than I was expecting.

754, Holy crap you ARE North!  And nice touch with the "Eh".  I'm going to see if I can line up a welder to maybe take a look at it, so thanks alot for the offer.  But I wouldn't want anyone to hack apart a perfectly good frame for just that one piece. Were you saving the frame for another project or anything?

You can buy a helmet lock that attaches to a frame tube with one way screws.  A quick google search for "motorcycle helmet lock" resulted in some newer, neater (read - more expensive) ideas...

I'm thinking of something like this:

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/74/2796/ITEM/Motion-Pro-Helmet-Lock.aspx?SiteID=CSE_GBase_074&WT.mc_ID=80003&zmam=88421133&zmas=1&zmac=2&zmap=2796

Figure if you get the seat lock from another bike you will need a key for it, as well.

Good luck!

The motion=pro lock is a great unit and been around forever. One dreawback is it fits snugly on a 7/8 tube like a handlebar. No frame tubes are 7/8.

I have a cute 18" cable lock I use for helmets, from JC Whitney. They don't seem to have them anymore. It allows me to lock the helmet virtually anywhere on the bike.  Often on a trip I have gear on the seat and can't raise it to use the OEM lock.

Here are some cable locks, and a Motion Pro style knock off which has different mounting tube sizes.

Many touring people have found the longer retractable cables to be nice as you can run them thru the sleeve of your jacket, and the helmet, when doing some sightseeing etc.
