Got (carb) boots?
« on: June 19, 2009, 06:42:23 AM »
Buongiorno,

Need new rubber boots/sleeves/connectors for the VERY nice 29mm Keihin CR's I found on THAT auction site.

These carbs are going on my CB500 racer and there are no off-the-shelf, bolt-on rubber flanges to be found, gonna have to turn on a lathe my own inlet stubs and connect the carbs to them with rubber boots.

Just before ordering special (read expensive) boots from SUDCO/Allen's/etc., was wondering if there are any stock Honda (or other make) boots that i can get off the shelf at David Silver or such, maybe a CB650's, CB750 DOHC?

These are more or less the dimensions, the retaining bump's shape doesn't really matter as I am making new stubs anyway and can modify the Keihin screw-on connectors to suit.

Can people measure any stock boots that they may have in the workshop?

Cant wait to bolt these CR's on and see if they make any difference compared to my trusty 26VM's

Cheers & Thanks

TG

I just measured a set of 650 boots (uknown year, unfortunately... I think they were for '79-80 slide carbs) and they're really close to your drawing. Not measuring the raised sealing ribs, I get 34mm on one end, 37mm on the other, with 29mm in the middle. Hope that helps!

hi paul

thanks for that

BTW, looks like its the jinx season.....

one friend pulled a cyl stud on his R80G/S

another broke a drive shaft in his  R1100G/S

and in my own GSXR750 streefighter one carb is flooding, ended up with the cranckases full of gas...

I just bought some booties for the 650 100 beans for 4 from honda. Hope they fix some of my nagging issues.

Well as long as nobody gets hurt, the bikes can always be repaired. It's only time and money after that.

I looked at using custom radiator hoses when I was looking for carb isolators for my CB650, they would have fitted too but I got some practically new ones off another forum member.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
