petcock question...
« on: November 14, 2005, 02:26:46 PM »
No..........that that petcock...I'm referring to the one on the bottom lefthand side of my fuel tank....CB350F to be precise.

As I'm removing the fuel line today, the brass tube pulls out of the potmetal petcock body.  As I recall, these were just tapped into place, but I thought I'd ask if anyone here knows differently.

Had that happen on my CB550 project.
Well I'd just tap it back into place and then check the retention by giving a twist and pull with some pliers ( don't scratch it up).  Maybe put a little red Locktite on it before tapping it home and then wait over night for the Locktite to set up.

Tap the brass tube back in the petcock. You are done. Don't do all that other stuff. A simple tap is all it needs. You don't need another petcock. OK, let me state another way. If the tube can be tapped back in place and you can't pull it out by hand (use no tools, but your fingers) as hard as you can pull on it, then no......you don't need to replace the petcock.
JFYI, I have never replaced a petcock because the tube didn't stay in place. This is talking about being in the field for many years (working on a lot of bikes)....not my personal equipment.
