Would you repair this crack????

Don't know what happened, i bought it like this...
it's through and through causing a mild but unacceptable oil leak.

that might change the dimensions of the case though, making bearning clearances wonky, or non-existent

that probably isn't a crack, those happen from surface tension on cast parts. you could take it and get it magnafluxed just to be sure, but I'm guessing it is only skin deep.

see second sentance above the first pic. I should add the PO tried to fix this with JB weld on the outside without luck.

didn't read the oil leak part, sorry. find someone who welds cast aluminum all day and problem solved.

yea, its either that or replace the bottom half of the case... but that seems to be debatable as well.

probably the safest thing is to weld it... so long as the heat wont tweak anything...

Use Lumiweld, a form of aluminium weld which works at low temperature. It can be done with a propane torch and will not cause distortion. It is just as strong as the parent metal.

way better than a tig weld, too much heat distortion with a mig or tig weld

Thank you guys! I think I'll run with the low temp aluminum weld stuff.
**after reading the other post, it seems the case may have some issues with heat. any thoughts on pulling out the Oxy-A torch for a quick heat up rather than the other lower temp stuff?

EDIT #2: LOL, on that HTS-200 stuff, a few years ago i watched the promo CD of the product and was "curious" about one part. This part is where they repair a bolt hole on a manifold(?) in one scene and in the next scene where they remove it, it is clearly not the same part. I called the guy to ask about this and he got very irate very quickly and hung up on me. I think overall the product is as good as advertised, but I'm not a fan of poor editing trickery. = 0

at 1:13 in the video is the start of the thread repair... you can see that when pulling the bolt out, it is clearly a different manifold.

yeah, that's a good catch, I haven't had the need to try that one in real life yet.  I only use the stuff for light repairs and fabrication, but it hasn't let me down in the 3 years I've been using it.
