CB500 Four Custom Chopper/Death Machine?

You know, sometimes we all come across a motorcycle that leaves us speechless.

And other times, shaking our heads.

Or  ::)

Today, I was eBaying to my hearts content, when a customer came into the shop to pick up a bike and drop off another -

The one dropped off is the dudes sons, the shop just needs to get it running.

I had to get photographic evidence of this machine -

For your viewing pleasure, I present this CB500 Chopper:



I know, you are already impressed, well, you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Check this out, both sides -





Well?

We had to unload it from a pickup - front brake lever was missing. Brake hose was cracked almost all the way through anyway.

I had to walk away -

This is one the shop probably should of turned away

A perfect example of the wrong way to rake/chop a bike. (never cut at the head tube) DANGEROUS! that makes alligator wrestling look safe! HA! ::)

Is that the longevity of the bike, or the distance that the builder should be dragged through broken glass and sea salt for putting such a creation on the road?  ;)   ;D

that neck makes NAKED alligator wrestling look safe :D. cant say i would have allowed it into the shop. thats a BIG liability IMO. first pothole i bet the entire neck section seperates, those welds look like raccoon #$%*.

Bailing wire? I was thinking more along the lines of bungee cords. They are about as safe as those welds. Who in their right mind would want to ride it looking like that?

You all act like doing this to a defenseless bike is new. This kind of stuff has been going on since the late 60's.

Problem is he didn't fill or gusset anything. So it looks like #$%*. That and his welds look nasty sure... but I've seen even really pretty welds break before some horrid ones. So who knows what penetration he got.

After that cutting at the neck is pretty common. You'd be surprised how many people did it (still do it) professionally. I know I've cut a few. Use a rake angle jig and everything should be straight and true. But then again....


Either way it at least "looks" half assed. Might be just as sturdy as the 75lbs of steel the factory put up front to begin with lol. Who knows.

I do kinda like the overall look of the 1st pic. Very 70's style custom.

Not sure what they will do.

The customer was advised they would get the bike running, but that they would not ride it.

As the shop itself did no work to the bikes frame, they should not be held liable, but times being what they are, you never can tell.

I hope they estimate the work required to get it running prior to doing the work, I did not check to see what was "pre-approved".

I work with steel and am quite impressed with what a little steel can do....
