Bloody electrical problems can be extremely hard to find. I have recently done quite a bit of work with a mate on a lot of late model cars, bloody sensors everywhere, and half of them are tied together, i mean that if the knock sensor or oil switch or can't think of the 3rd one at the moment, but if any of these sensors play up on our late model GM cars they stop the fuel pump. Now when trouble shooting it became obvious that the fuel pump wasn't working so we changed it, still nothing. Then its trial and error until you find the correct fault, it can be very frustrating. Interestingly enough a mate has a V6 Holden {GM} that had a faulty coil only last week and there was no visible signs of any fault but he'd get half way to work and the car ran like a diesel......middle coil was knackered. Funny thing was that it was the one that he had recently replaced, so it took a while to find the problem, we had even changed the other 2 coils because that one was new. I had a spare coil so i tried it and BINGO....thats what it was.... ;D

i believe the third sensor you are talking about is the crank sensor. Also your v6 holden, depending on which model it is would be our GTO or pontiac g8 in the states. g8 is nice, gto was overrated but still pretty cool. thanks for the tip on the coils, I dont think I would have looked at them as somewhere I heard they didnt go bad very often

Yep, thats it, the crank angle sensor. I think the V6 is referred to as a "buick" V6 here in Oz, and the "GTO" was the Monaro here, not bad cars really. Electronic components, especially sealed ones, can be very hard to work out a "lifespan", some gofor ever and some seem to do as they please, i have a problem with my daughters car at the moment and it has turned out to be the "throttle position sensor", I have had enough with electronics at the moment, give me an old carburetored V8 any day.... ;)

yes, the gto was the monaro, i believe the commadore is our pontiac g8. Holden has had some cars in the past that I would love GM to bring to the states. I believe the ute would do well over here. Kind of like a modern chevy elcamino. As for your carbd v8, thats the reason I have my 1972 chevelle :)

My last V8 was a SL/R Torana, Heard of them?, It only had a 4.2 liter V8 but in that size car it was excellent, i'll see if i can find a pic.

Mine was like the first one, white with a black bonnet.

Yeah, the SL/R 5000 was a 5 litre mine was the next one down, still it had chevy flat tops, roller rockers, nice crank, Edelbrock manifold with holley 4 barrel  all blue printed and balanced it ate a lot of 5 litre cars. I had a few arguments over the engine size but it was a 4.2 liter.

well that explains my confusion. I believe when my mother visited her friends in NZ they had one. I remember her comparing it to the dodge aspen/plymouth volare
