Topic: Rims Powder Coat?

Is there "how much forum" if not there needs to be haha. I have been looking and looking and i can not seem to get a fair price on powder coating my rims..there disassembled and awaiting..My question is whats a reasonable price?

Granted I knew him... But...

Had a guy podercoat a whole box of stuff for me for around $80.

I've spent upwards of $200 for a car rim before in several colors.

What are they trying to charge you?

I got my chrome blasted off and them powdercoated for $110.  I thought this was very fair as the two other places in town wanted $200-$300.  Those places where professional powdercoaters and the place that did is was a fab shop with an industrial blaster and only one color of powdercoat: black.  Thats what I wanted though.

Hes asking 200 for both rims.But from what ive seen thats a bit expensive i it could just be the area im in but i thought it was a little high. Its really not alot to powder coat.

I agree 200 clams is a lot.  I was quoted 120 and that's in NJ, just outside of NYC.

But to say it doesn't cost a lot to powdercoat is slightly off target.  The prep is time consuming if done right.  Clean, blast, preheat then repeat till no contaminants pop out.  If this is a pro shop, the oven and guns they use are big $$$$.  They have to recoup that cost, plus the material cost.  Although the powder is cheap, all the other items add up quickly believe me - tape, IR temp guns, racks, etc.

I can only powder coat small parts (that fit in a household oven) but I'm saving up for a bigger oven.  If I ever get one, I'm going to offer this service to the forum.
