Sorry...not a fan....Automatic and Shaft drive on a machine with the VFR name? LAME!!! When one hears VFR they normally think of the Interceptor....not some...ok gonna leave it there before i go too far off course with a rant...

Yeah, I'd get the manual shift version for sure. I test rode one of the "Automatic" (Paddle shift) versions of the FJR1300. It was so lame. It felt like they just put an electric shifter that you can buy from JCWhitney on an ATV transmission. Heck, I refuse to buy an car without a stick shift...

i'd go with the manual too but ya gotta give the big red some credit for tickling the technology fetish. as for the vfr name applied to a sport tourer (honda calls it a sports bike), i see where ya coming from dr, but i'm looking at it on its own apparent merit regardless of the name. pretend it's called the rfv.

as for the styling some have held their nose to: beauty is obviously in the eye of the beholder, and i may not like it in the flesh, but at least it doesn't look like every other bike on the road.

so far i dig it.

My main beefs with it are the Shaft drive and the auto trans. Come on..its named after one of hondas most well known tech flagships the VFR/Interceptor...it isnt a BMW! Styling wise..i dont mind it. its just a let down in the drivetrain dept. Now if Honda were to finally revise the VFR 800 as a lower level bike and keep it true to the Interceptor name then yea...at least you would have a bike worthy of the Interceptor name at least. They have the CBR 600 and CBR1000...they once had the VF750 and the VF1000 so i cant see why they cant have the VFR 800 Chain driven bike and this new one.

you have a good point. brand recognition (i hate marketing speak) is built for a reason and one wonders why they just didn't come up with another, or dig up an old, name for this one. sometimes i wonder if the marketing guys get lazy and try to cash in on a known name. maybe they actually see this as a fitting successor.

porsche purists were not thrilled when the 911 offered 4wd, then later a similar (dual clutch) auto box to this honda either.
