Hey everyone! I wanted to keep track of my project and decided that this is the place to do it! I purchased a 1974 cb750 in early August along with a spare bike and a cb450 for my brother. I started the tear down taking all the old 70's chopper style forks, seats, and sissy bars off. I wish I took pictures of it when i bought the bike as it looked like a total mess.

I have a new tank and rear tire for it i still need to install.

Can't wait to see more.  There are a lot of guys building bobbers here.  I like the bike's stance in that third photo.  Are you going to run the front wheel brakeless?  Brave lad if so.

I don't know yet; i rode the bike before i took it apart without the front brake. I needed to brake early and use a lot of engine braking. Right now i will  run it without front brakes but maybe on the next bike i build i will use the front brakes.

Looks good so far.    I can't imagine success in a panic stop without my front brake.  What style are you aiming far in the end?

Looking badass so far.  Is that a weld-on hardtail from TCB Choppers?  Those Mac drag pipes look great too.  I can't wait to see the finished bike.

Alright guys, I think I have a problem. So im on the last leg of getting this thing completed and today I let it actually run for a few minutes and it started smoking . I think I have a blown head gasket because from what I observed I think that there is oil getting into the exhaust. The bike has not ran this long in a long time.

Could it just be burning some old stuff out and if so how long would it take to burn the stuff out?

This is a 1974 cb750, If I wanted to buy another motor what other year motors could I use?

   Could be rings, could be valve seals.

Here is what she looks like as of today broken throttle cable and all.

Does anybody know where i can get a throttle cable that splits off into 4 cables that go into each carb? I'm trying to read up as much as possible and it seems like there is more than one type of carbs that come on a 74 cb750.

I took a picture to try and make sense of my wording. The cable goes into each carb; most cables i have found for sale are just a single cable that hooks into a linkage that controls all 4 carbs.

Found the type of throttle cable i need but please tell me i can find one cheaper! This one is in japan and $110.

So are these the carbs that originally came on the bike?

   Got me bub, I ride a 550.  Just a little info I gleaned from reading here a bit.  I thought they changed them after the K1.  Most likely you've got an old set of carbs someone set aside your PO was lucky enough to come across.   Do you see any stampings on the carb body that might identify them?

On the side it says KEIHIN other than that i do not see numbers. I am going to take them off sometime this weekend to clean them and possibly rebuild them since i will have to rebuild the motor. Thanks for finding that ebay sale; im happy i know what year bike these came from because i have been looking at 74 carbs and they look nothing like these.

I sometimes use Honda dealer sites to look at parts diagrams, like Bettencourts.com.  You can put in your year, model, etc and then compare.  It would be a good way to find what year they stopped putting them on.

Nice job looks good. Any way we could get a side view with the stock tank? Planing a hard tail for my next build. Keep us posted.
