Nope, you got one here. I just picked up a '77 CB550 about a month ago. Also have an '04 VFR (Interceptor) I live off of Indian River Road. I get out and ride every chance I can when not travelling.

Wow, there are few vintage guys in our city. I live maybe few miles away from you near Witchduck area. Been in a riding funk last few weeks but I normaly ride few times. Be interested in seeing pictures of your CB550 if you feel like posting them. Friend of mine has a showroom CB360 right down the road from you. Other than that, that's the extent of the riders in VB. Good to hear from you.

I ride to work pretty much every day its not raining. I trade off now between the Interceptor and the 550. I get out for a short ride in Pungo, South Chesapeake area about every weekend. I do travel alot, so I don't get out as often as I want to.

BTW, Simpson, I like your CB750 and the Speed Triple, almost bought the triple a few years back, it was a coin toss between the VFR and the Triple and the VFR won.

Can't go wrong with Honda. I've come to really appreciate what the VFR offers. Funny you say that about the VFR/Triple. I've VFR'd my Triple over the last year. Bought the line of Triumph accessories to make it a more comfortable bike (gel seat, handle bar risers, tail bag, fairings, etc...). Finally blew the dust off it today and rode it to work. Pungo is my staple riding area also, as I have loop marked out for fun, happy to share with you. A friend of mine not far from you has a FZ1 (nearly bought the VFR) and we occasionally take day trips. Perhaps consider joining us one day. Winter time is highly unlikely time for us. We got pretty cold on our last one up north around Tar Bay past Williamsburg. I'll be working on the 750 this Holiday, hopefully getting it ready for the coming season. Lots to do!

Hi all...I just picked up a '74 CB750 that needs a lot of work. It will certainly be a long term project, but I have to go through the long drawn out process to get a title for it before I start doing anything to it. I currently ride a Triumph Daytona 675. Like sniper1 I will certainly looking for advice.

Welcome aboard. My '75 build has been going slow, too many other things going on, but pick at it every now and now. PM me if you want to go for ride, I'll break out the VFR if I have to try and keep up with your 675.

Thanks for the welcome. I am going to start going through the hoops tonight to get a title. It looks to be a couple month process. From my initial looks there have got to be cheaper places to get parts.

I don't think you will have a problem keeping up...I am slow

Well according to the DMV and NMVTIS resulted in no records found for my VIN. That is a good start. Now I have to wait until the 17th of October to start the next part of the hurdle.

I need to get pretty active on this site. I was looking through the "Services Offered" thread and there is a guy that will rebuild the 750 carbs for $60 for members with 50+ posts or $120 for those with less than 50 posts. Since it costs me nothing to post and I have a little time before I will actually spend any $ on the bike I figure I will start posting more. My only dilemma is that there is a ton of resources here that I have been reading up on so right now I don't have a whole lot to offer.

I think that my actual first project is to re-do the electrical. I want to get rid of all of the old stuff and put in a new modern regulator/rectifier. However, after reading other peoples views and them using some part out of an old F-150 I am not sure if the info is out there to do it. Being an electronics tech I will have to figure out a way to retrofit parts from modern day bikes (handlebar controls, charging electricals, etc) into this bike.

Almost anything can be done, you will see many examples on this site. They have all helped me out very much with my '77 and I will be using them for my '75.

I am always up for some help. I have been searching, but have been unable to find any one that has posted about how they did a complete re-wire while upgrading to modern electrical components. There have been a few that seem to have started, but fell off the face of the planet before they completed anything.

Well it appears that any ideas to spend money on the bike will have to put on hold for a bit. It seems the motor mounts on the wife's car have gone bad causing the motor to rock and vibrate pretty hard under power.

Only five more days until I am on to the next step of obtaining a title for the bike though.

So not wanting to get blasted with the proverbial "use the search function" I figured I would throw this up here.

I have been doing a ton of reading on upgrading the electronics. I haven't torn into it yet, but I suspect that the wiring harness is cut to bits and pieced together. So new harness will probably be in order. All of my reading has left me somewhat lost and confused. I want a care free system. I don't want to have to worry about adjusting, repairing, or tinkering with the electronics once they are installed. I guess I am mainly talking about the ignition, charging, and protection (fuses and the like), but if you know of something I have overlooked by all means let me know.

So what am I looking at? I have thought about getting the separate regulator/rectifier (R/R) from Oregon. Other than being two units I am not sure how the electronics contained within differ from a modern single unit. Are they specifically made for the different type of stator (alternator) the CB's have? Then we have the DynaS ignition. This allows me to remove the points correct? Can it be used in conjunction with the new R/R (either of the ones I mentioned)? Do I have to use their coil packs? Is there a different brand? Is there something that I am completely overlooking or missing?

I will more than likely not be using the bullet connectors in the headlight. I will instead be using simple and highly effective canon plugs or multi pin connectors.

First hurdle to obtaining a title is done. Now I have to wait another 21 days before I can actually apply for the title. This wait is to allow a potential lein holder the opportunity to claim their merchandise.

Kind of dead in here.

Just found out that I will be on travel when the time comes to get the title. So that means that the bike will remain on the "intent to auction" thing until I get back. Kind of sucks giving someone extra time, but there is nothing I can do about it.

I have been thinking of changing over and starting with the engine vice the wiring first. The reasoning is as such. If the engine is shot and I end up having to replace it I don't want to dump a bunch of time and money into the electronics just to potentially have to re-do them.

I have also been thinking about swapping on a GL1000 front end. I like the dual brake set up and from what I have read it is basically a direct swap. Not sure about the 19" front wheel and 17" rear wheel though. I have never ridden a bike like that so I am unsure as to how it would handle.

Yah I am a bit all over the map right now. I have a vision in my head and hope I can bring it to fruition.

Well I got back in town yesterday. I made a trip to the DMV to get the title. I guess they don't know how to add and subtract over there and can't seem to read and comprehend their own written instructions. I ran out of time discussing the issue with them so I had to leave...without a title. I guess I will go back on Monday and see if I can show them the error of their ways. I think I am going to ask for a supervisor in the very beginning so I don't have to waste my time with someone who won't be able to do anything anyways.
