           Yeah, but because of the way that this thing runs, I don't want to go messing with the timing. The seller had told me some of the details like that, but like I can remember things like that? I got him to send me his email address and thast way, I can get him to send me anything he has in his head, about what he's done and such. Then, after I get all the info he can remember, I am going to tell him nicely that he sure needs to take care of the Safety things on a build AND let the potential buyer know just what he's getting! I know that some folks would have refused the deal and got hold of ebay, but #1 I WANTED to let him know that there were a number of things that, if he wasn't going to fix them, he should have let the buyer know. You see, he said, in the listing , that there were somethings that needed to be fixed and named some things. There were a number of things that were never mentioned (no spare wheel, the master cylinder was a dual stage unit and it was bypassing, (he said that the brakes worked but it needed a master cylinder) leaving me with only 2 wheels with brakes and barely that (with NO emergency brake), He installed a new gas tank, but didn't make sure the gas gauge worked while he had it down, the steering box (manual steering) had slack in it, that could have been adjusted out. The shifter needed to be adjusted badly, hard to find 1st and 2nd gears (going up AND down) The emergency brake doesn't work, the guy who had the var before this guy got it, cut the emergency brake cables off at the differential and I've got to come up with those parts as well. I can't lock the car up, because the locks don't work and the one key I got, doesn't fit. Now, he said that the body work was good but not perfect. And that is a real shame because the paint job is really GOOD (best I can tell so far) and yet, the sides of the car has places that are readily noticeable and it's TOO bad he couldn't have had that taken care of BEFORE it was painted. It WILL be redone, but it will be one of the LAST things though. He seemed like a good enough person, but he just needs to pay attention to detail and be careful what he tells about the item he's trying to sell. He want's to do another one and I don't want to discourage that. Besides, he's not getting to work much and is trying to earn money, doing this. I don't think I should have paid as much for this car, all things considered, but I wanted THIS car SO BADLY that I am willing to deal with the issues myself. AND I have to say that, some of the stuff is making me feel like old times, taking care of the stuff on an old Mopar!

The GTX and the road runner are basically the same car except the road runner was a "Plain Jane car" (with what was called "taxi cab" interior) that came from the factory as a pretty good runner and the GTX had the 440 as the standard engine, while the car itself had more comfort items and better upholstery.

Just a slight correction...the Satellite was the "plain Jane", the RR was a step up, and the GTX was a limited edition that was about 400-500 lbs lighter than the other 2. It was actually a "track ready" Satellite, introduced in '67, the yr before the RR came out. And then there was the SuperBird....Back then they were "A" bodies and "B" bodies, "A" bodies were Darts, Dusters, Demons, Valiants, and early (up to 69) Barracudas, later (70+) Barracudas and Challengers I think were a seperate body style, "B" bodies were GTX, RoadRunners, Satellites, Belvederes, Chargers, and Coronets but I dont think the Furies, or Polaras were. Probably missed a couple in there. Some body and suspension parts from "A"s would fit all the other "A"s, same with the "B"s. They started changing all that around 1970 or 72.  There was a girl in Sac that had a gold GTX with a 426 Hemi, but I could never get her to race me...geez, the memories that car brings back....

       Begging your pardon but, there's alot of fact that you put in there but, the road runner was built to go against cars like the GTO. It was built with what was referred to as "Taxicab Interior" and no frills. The GTX was actually a road runner WITH the frills. In relation to the interior and such the road runner was more of a plain jane than the satellite. I've had several Mopars myself. I've been a Mopar man since as far back as I can remember and read everything I could get my hands on, about the upcoming models before they came out. I've had  56' Plymouth, 2- 66' Chargers, 2- 69' road runners (my wife of 38 and a half years had one of them when we got married), a 76' Volare' road runner, a 74' Dodge Royal Monaco, an 84' Plymouth Turismo 2.2 (Fine little runner there also and surprised some cars that thought they were faster) and FINALLY got myself a GTX.

                   Found out something myself, while looking for backup, check this out about a "Special Edition of the Hemi powered GTX"

                "For those that wanted even more performance than a Hemi-powered GTX, Plymouth quietly offered a R023 version (Standard Belvederes were RH23 and GTX's were RS23 - Dodge had a similar high performance version called W023) of the Hemi GTX. Called the "Super Stock" version, the R023 was not marketed by Plymouth and only serious racers would have heard of it or even consider ordering it. The R023 GTX was notable for what it didn't have. The hubcaps, radio, heater, body insulation, and even the carpet pad and sealers were removed to save weight - several hundred pounds in fact. Although their stripped appearance made them look more like a Plymouth Belvedere, they kept their GTX badges. Under the hood was the familiar 426 Hemi, hand-modified for performance with the addition of a transistorized ignition and a dual-point distributor with no vacuum advance, metal core-plug wires, Carter 4139 and 4140 Carbs, and a free-air system that sealed the breather to the underside of the hood - which made the big, wide hood scoop fully functional. Plymouth rated this heavily massaged Hemi at the same 425 bhp rating as the normal Hemi, which was under-rated to begin with. Plymouth built only 55 R023 GTX's, making them quite rare today."

        I am well aware of the differences of the the Satellites, Belevederes, road runners AND the GTXS. I know when they came out, what their purposes were AND how they were setup. The road runners were lighter than the GTXs, they only had the bare necessities as std equipment and the GTX (which WAS a good runner, mind you) came std with extras that the road runner did not have, unless ordered as options. The road runner base engine was the 335hp 383 and the GTX came with the 375hp 440 as it's base engine. When the road runner came out, it was a Coupe only while the GTX only came out as a 2dr hdtp. And I don't under stand where the discussion of the "A" body came in there. Totally different cars. I didn't do this to start a debate, I'm pretty much up on the Mopars, as I have been a fan for many years, as it seems you have as well. Moving right along, the 69' road runner was also named Motor Trend "Car Of The Year" and, in my own opinion, WAS the BEST year for them. 70' was alright, but hp started dropping and things as we knew them, were changing. The only GTX that would have been lighter, was the Super Stock version that was built in a very limited number, was stripped of ALL extras and had the 426 Hemi. Did you read that, I found the info online, I didn't make it up. I know that I don't know Everything about the Mopars, but I know quite a bit and pride myself about that.

       And by the way, the BELVEDERE was the BASE model of the "B" models and the rest of the came from that. The Belvedere started the midsize models in 1965 also, putting the Fury as the full size ones (in 64' they were the same size and design.

     BTW, I like to know that there is another who is into the Mopars, but let's share the admiration.

    Oh yeah, gotcha. I forgot about that. Just a "Senior Moment", on my part, I guess.

     Gotta say, it sure feels good to take the GTX out for a spin. get some pretty good looks too! When I go to Wal Mart or someplace, it's pretty cool to see folks checking it out (usually older men, who might remember them).

        Now THERE'S one I haven't seen or heard about for quite some time. How bout some photos there HT? Thanks for the compliment too! I Am quite proud to once agai have a mighty Mopar on my driveway. Soon as I can, I'll take photos of the car overall AND THEN, I'll take some of the areas that I will have to work on.

       Yeah, it's not good to go for a spin or even be around a car like that, because you will ghet the "Want To" to do something yourself.

every time i go for a ride with him my wife tells me "dont you go and get any ideas into your pointy little head" or something like that. she still remebers the rides in my old 429 interceptor 70 galaxy lol. i dont know if i'll ever be able to afford to do another big block sleeper car again but IF i do i want to do one just like my neighbors dart. it's that smaller body style, like the size of a falcon or maybe a touch larger, 4 doors, that ugly light tan paint with a dark brown vinyl roof and stock steel wheels and hubcaps. it LOOKS like grannys old dodge dart she drove to bingo on thursdays and church on sundays. he has 2 mufflers on each side to keep it REALLY quiet too, it even has the vinyl bench seat and column shift automatic! unless youre savvy enough to spot the 3" diameter exhaust system or the stock steel wheels out back that he had widened to 8" wide, you'd never know until he blew past you. and now sorry about the hi-jack but i get all excited every time i get to ride in that dart.
