Buddy got a cool 4 cyl engine today..
« on: November 02, 2009, 09:03:55 PM »
Phoned my vintage bike buddy today..
he was just getting on the ferry to go back to Vancouver island..

He said, guess what I got in the trunk..

A Henderson 4 motor.. :o trans is cutoff, pretty common when you find them. I asked how complete, he said, Mag & carb included, looks like it may run... :o

Best part, it was free.. :o   :o

Guess he was with the guy that had it  when they picked it up 40 yrs back, and the guy said he should have it as he already has a 20 Henderson.. :o

Pretty cool, I thought, wood look good beside the other Henderson, and maybe the 1911ish FN four, beside it would keep it in nice company..

Nice to see someone get some good stuff!

there's a copy of Mechanix Illustrated or some such from about 1940 around here somewhere. had plans for a sailboat that you could make from a sheet of tin. also had plans for a neat little midget racer...

"Go to your local junkyard and look for a Cord front axle and a large motorcycle engine like the Henderson Four..."

(and a whole bunch of other bits that your local junkyard hasn't seen in half a century)

See post 2 and think that they were also used in airplanes, boats as water pumps, etc...

I suggested he look at a beemer trans, and build a beater to ride.. ;)

They had  a bike shop opening near him, Gypsy Motorcycles, owned by Danny Lim  (they have a website) One guy rode his 23 HD police bike with hack aboout 40 minutes to get there, ther was at least one Indian Four, Bunch of other cool vintage bikes, I think 60 in all..
