Rubber Renue- For the DIY impaired
« on: December 07, 2009, 08:05:20 AM »
I know there are many threads here for a DIY concoction to restore rubber. For those of us not so DIY inclined, this is the best price I've found so far for Rubber Renue.

If I recall correctly, the main ingredient in Rubber Renu is methyl salicylate, which is Oil of Wintergreen :)

I know that's what's been in the DIY threads. Any sources? I'll google it.

I see that now, maybe I'll break down and try it myself.

I checked at Wal-Mart.  About $7 an ounce is expensive, but no shipping.  Place order, pick up next day.
For Rubber Renue or Wintergreen?

The RR in my link was $10 for 16oz.

But how did it work?
I used the wintergreen on my carb holders and worked great gave them flexibility without worry of cracking them,Because they were real hard and no flex at all(like plastic almost).#4 mount(aluminum collar in jug) had/has a crack and sucked air couldn't get tight enough ,Lil blue rv and soft mounts NO PROB.
Shop smelt great for about a week.

Cost of Wintergreen at the pharmacy is outrageous for an ounce or two.  How about 100% Wintergreen in a 32oz can for a reasonable price of $18:00?  That would soften a lot of boots and grommets.  Used to soften Kart tires for traction.

Thor Oil Tire Prep #12 "Quart Size" Wintergreen # 12 Part # 600568  $18.00  (or less) + shipping.
