My Honda Dealer Folded today!!!
« on: December 08, 2009, 06:45:33 PM »
My dealer Hilton Head motorsports closed today. They carried new Honda Yamaha Kawasaki and Suzuki. What really blows is when I called to check on all the bits for my 78 750f front brakes. He said i have the box from Honda right here but theres a problem with your order. I figure a retainer is discontinued. But no he tells me your parts are coming tommorow and Ill have to send them Back!! Im 2 miles from this place and UPS will have to return my parts Because theyre not a dealer anymore. They refunded me but now I have to order offline. Not alot of good reviews of honda parts direct lately.Western hills? Im worried about shipping. Whos the best honda dealer with website? Thanks. I hoped to have these brakes together and out for first ride tommorow.

Terry at Western hills is real good.  I never had a problem with them and they are fast with parts that are in stock and they have a good inventory.

I stand corrected.  Looks like Boxnife has a cheaper site to use.  Guess I'll be using it from now on.

Hey Bender... please tell us why you liked them (and why you didn't), also why you think they had to shut the doors.

Service honda piston seal is .60 cents cheaper than my price. Sweet. Thanks. Ive used Terry before too for oddball stuff. I should call him too. Thanks for the links. Ill compare shipping from Western in Ohio and Service in Indiana.
I liked the dealer as its the only one near me.I enjoyed buying the parts from them so I could see them in person when they arrived. The parts guy changed a few times but they liked looking up parts and were usually amazed they could get them in a few days. I believe the parts come from a south Ga wharehouse. It is a large dealer. They have 100-150 used bikes for sale.100 new. Too much overhead. No buyers financing bikes. Im Between Ft Stewart Ga and Mcas Beaufort/ Parris island SC. Almost all the used bikes have base stickers or evidence of them. Its been there for at least 18 years in one form or another. Its been for sale but did not sell.

My daughter got me most of a honda tool kit for my birthday, the tools were $18 and shipping was $17. Kinda sucks.

I've had good luck with Service Honda, also.  I've gotten everything from my local dealer Icon, for the last couple of years.  They lost their floor planning 8 or 9 months ago, but so far have been able to get parts when I need.  It's just a matter of time, I'm sure.

Ah CRAP!  That's mine too.  I liked riding up there just to check out all the used bikes they had.  I had my eye on a few of the 750 and 600 CBRs.  I'm too cheap to pull the trigger.

So the thread starts because a local Honda dealership is closing and everybody offers places to buy stuff online. I guess that's a good idea if you like the idea of your local Honda dealerships closing.

Times are tough, guys. Why not patronize the local folks and keep them in business?

Thats crap that they would send it back, after all they were a dealer when you ordered, they should honor that selling agreement.

Beta! Sorry we never have met yet! I was in Savannah yesterday and thought about going to the Honda dealer on Abercorn! Is it gone?
 Patrick.
I was mainly using my local dealer! A few times they didnt have the parts I was looking for and they searched all Honda dealers stock!!! Thats how I found some cables for my 350f! My dealer said these two places had them. They had 2 sets at western hills and one in WA state. Terry only has one set of throttle push pull left. I have a return that I dont need.
Beta. please call me when you pass through. Ill pm you my #. The 750 is here. The 350f is gone. The 550k will never leave!!

I think it's understood most everyone perfers to buy local. I do about a 50/50 split. My dealership knows I'm not going to pay 'dealership' prices on something expensive like a primary chain when I can get it 40$ cheaper online. I've asked for them to price match and they wont do it. I don't take it personally, but I'm also not going to fork over the extra cash so the dealership owner can keep his Hummer going during the recession.

Yup, cycle parts nation (honda parts nation) has some good prices. I usually compare HPN, my local place, bike bandit and usually one more. I order the same thing on each and then see which one is cheapest. Honda parts nation wins almost every time unless I am only ordering one or two small things, then the local is cheaper because of free shipping to their store.  :)

For carb kits, I've found motorcyclecarbs.com to be pretty good on aftermarket kits. They beat the closest one on our CB650 by $8 per carb, with the shipping.

It sucks to have your local go under like that and then do that with your parts. It's not just Honda dealers who order and sell parts through the fiche. That was a really lame excuse to not give you the parts that were sitting right there.  :(

Well every time I go to my local dealer the parts guy looks at me like two heads .
They think they are doing me a big favor when I ask for parts for a 1970's bike.
They are not to bad when I ask for parts on my 1999 bike .

yeah joe mig,i know that feeling!!ive found out if you have a part number they are more happy to punch it in ,,its either available or not,if you try to explain by name or description the part its just too hard for them to pull up a parts picture or microfishe, one (young)parts guy didnt even know that on older bikes a chain runs from the crank to the primary shaft!!he said "that sounds like a crappy way to do it",,,in GOD we trust ,parts blokes we question!!

Okay it even happened with my 99 Roadstar when my wife took a spill and I was replacing some parts they had a hard time finding the replacement windshield and asked me if I could go home and get the part #.
So when I did that and started to look up other parts I was going to odor from my local dealer and noticed the savings if I do it on line . So I did it on line and saved a real nice amount and the odor was around 700.00.
I guess they need to pay a little more for experienced help because that comment cost them a nice sale.

Yup, I can go to the counter and order them or I can order them from home on their site and they are cheaper. They add on some if you make them do it. Then, it just gets sent to the shop and I save on shipping. And apparently, handling (of the keyboard).

The parts guys at my local dealership do a good job here in Fayetteville, NC.  They ride and one collects old BMW's.  He knows alot about the old SOHC's.
