Where to find 1979 Honda CB650 carb kits
« on: December 10, 2009, 07:16:49 AM »
Hi all,

I'm new to this forum.  I have a '79 Honda CB650 and need carb kits.  It's been tricky finding kits that are actually for my bike.  Anybody know where to find them?

Thanks,
Todd

Happiness isn't something you experience.  It is something you remember.

I don't think those will work. Don't the 79's have different carbs than the other 650's? It lists them all.

It shouldn't list the nighthawk either. It has VB44C's on it, Instead of the A's. I think the only difference is jetting, but since it includes jets, those would be wrong.

The 79/80 carbs are diff than the 81/2.    Parts wont interchange.
Also spacing is diff so you cant swap between the two heads either.

Thanks for the help.  So, if the Ebay link is not the right carb kit, which ones and where?  Where have folks gone for parts for the rebuild?

I've never bought any but I know some have.  If no one chimes in here try the 650 site too.

Try www.motorcyclecarbs.com. I got ours there, same as what you need, for about $8 per carb less than the ones on ebay. They are Keyster. It took less than 2 weeks to get here. I never check the mail, so it was probably quicker.

I just clicked on it and they are having some problems with their site so I emailed their webmaster. Hopefully they get it back up again real soon. I'd buy from them again.

I found a couple of other sources this morning while looking for kits for my K6:
http://www.olypen.com/retro/ ($15 @)
http://www.hvccycle.com/carburetor-rebuild-honda.html ($22.50 @)
http://www.jetsrus.com/carb_rebuild_kit/carb_rebuild_repair_kit_honda_street.html ($20 or $26 @)

I'm also building a 79 Cb650 and finding parts can be a pain in the ass. A few sites I have check are:
http://www.siriusconinc.com
http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/CARBURETOR_REPAIR_KIT_HONDA_C_P7749C694.cfm (Full Kit)
http://www.partsnmore.com
www.jetsrus.com
They might not have full kits or everything you need in one spot but they have parts. Also http://www.dimecitycycles.com and http://www.tcbroschoppers.com both had parts I needed.

Hope that helps in some way.

*Side note. I was able to get by without a full kit. Just swapped some parts here and there from a second used set I picked up cheap. Might be an option for you depending on what shape yours are in.
I bought a bike that didn't run to force myself to learn the ropes! She runs now ;)
